My self-summary
Let's play 2 Truths and a Lie:

1) My Irish accent gets thicker when I'm excited, tipsy or chatting to fellow country-(wo)men.

2) I work on the space program with NASA and love my job.

3) I'm one of People magazine's top 50 men who are really,...., really, really, ridiculously good-looking (Zoolander!) :P.

I love a good laugh.... even your silliest jokes, but I also love smart humor (e.g. I love The Onion, theoatmeal.com and Family Guy for the smart-stupid juxtaposition). I'm an overall optimistic bloke. Partly from having a cool, loving, laid-back family and an equally cool, laid-back bunch of friends, both here and back in Ireland, and partly because I love my job.

I like to have a lot of friends, but only a few close ones. I love reading The Economist, talking politics and reading history but try not to get too opinionated about it ('cause I can't stand people who preach).

I love having a quality beer or two with good people, but never ten (unlike my untamed youth!).

I'm in good shape (I love hiking, running, golf and swimming.... used to be a competitive long-jumper).

I try never to prejudge people, but sometimes I just can't help it (mullets!?!).

And I recently discovered that the poem 'If’ by Rudyard Kipling really sums up my attitude to life. Go ahead, Google it; if you've read this far, you might as well :) Oh and people tell me that I'm savagely good at doing accents.

I like to get around and see the world. Been to 28 states and 22 countries.... hopefully keeps me from developing too much of an Bay Area or Western-centric attitude.

I'm a die hard fan of Cal football and Ireland rugby having played both sports in school.
What I’m doing with my life
I work on the Mars exploration program and I love it. Despite some of the inevitable politics and tedium that comes with any job, I never wake up in the morning and dread going to work. I'm proud of what I do and I wouldn't change it for the world... and it lets me travel to cool places: in 2013 Boulder (x4), DC (x3), Sweden, Boston, Canada, Florida, Ireland, France and Switzerland.
I’m really good at
1) doing accents. Seriously. Name one.
2) listening & giving advice
3) laughing at even your dumbest jokes :-)
The first things people usually notice about me
Well what else but the ever-present green tweed waistcoat-and-buckle shoes leprechaun outfit that all Irish citizens are required to wear :P.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Eats: spicy! i.e. Indian, Thai, Malaysian. Sushi, Okonomiyaki and Japanese curry. Basically any awesome food and the Bay area has loads!

Interwebz: XKCD, Slate, BBC News, The Onion, The Oatmeal, NASAwatch, ESPN, Rugbydump, The Economist.

Books: Guns, Germs & Steel. Trashy Political/military thrillers, history, science fiction, Ender series.

Movies: Predator, Terminator, Event Horizon, Alien(s) and anything that combines horror, action and/or sci-fi. Also love comedies: Bridesmaids, Wedding Crashers, 40-year-old Virgin, Superbad. Also political/military thrillers like Syriana, Rendition etc... I guess I like most movies :-).

TV: Louis CK! The Inbetweeners, Homeland, Breaking Bad, Arrested Development, House of Cards, Arrested Development, Family Guy, Modern Family

Music: Johnny Cash, Basshunter, Hixxy, Tiesto... soft spot for European techno, but very broad selection, including rock, hip-hop, (some) pop, dance and love Irish traditional (songs o' the Motherland).
The six things I could never do without
Running,
avocados,
my fantastic family,
my great friends,
the Majestic West Coast of Ireland and ...
A healthy, well-funded space program :-)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
geopolitics, the less fortunate in our world, planets, rugby, the future and vacations.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I get choked up more easily than most people know when I see or read about something really sad.... I just don't show it. Because that wouldn't be manly :-).

Oh and for at least 2 years I thought that 'BFF' meant 'Best Fuckin' Friends'. Seriously, nobody explained it!

You're an optimistic, intelligent, laid-back young woman who is curious, friendly, caring and laughs easily. You're never content to do exactly the same thing for too long. You care about your body and stay in shape. And if you have a thing for slightly silly men with accents who have their shit together. :D
