I am snuggly, patient, and perverted.

My Self-Summary

There's an awful lot about me at my home page: http://www.digitalkingdom.org/~rlpowell/

I'm a Unix sysadmin by trade, and that's also one of my hobbies. I'm very polymarous, by which I mean that polyamory seems to be a built-in orientation for me. I currently (12May2005) have two girlfriends. I like what I do, and I love my current job. Not that the job itself is anything special, but I'm surrounding my these amazing geeks, so it's a lot of fun. I'm a singularitarian. Can't think of much else that doesn't better fit in one of the other sections.

What I’m doing with my life

I play computer/video games a lot. Dance Dance Revolution is my primary form of exercise; I play 2-3 hours a week. I spend a lot of time with my partners. I work on/with/in Lojban a lot (http://www.lojban.org/; I'm the webmaster). I'm currently (12May2005) 35K words into a modern setting horror/fantasy novel in Lojban. I think this proves I'm a nerd or something. Other hobbies come and go, but those are the serious time spenders for me, not in any particular order. Oh, I also have a job. :-)

I’m really good at

Computers. Cuddling. Enjoying simple things. Lojban (not in the language list; big shocker there). Over-analyzing. Failing to write up my over-analysises (that's not a word, is it?).

The first things people usually notice about me

Visually, I assume? The hair. Both facial and head, but mostly the head hair. Also, I don't think any of my photos here have me in glasses so please note that I have glasses. I take them off to sleep and to have photos taken, and that's pretty much it. I don't dislike my appearence in glasses at all, I just prefer my appearence without them. *shrug*

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

(a) Too many. Off the top of my head: Hyperion, Dune, The Silmarillion, Tombs Of Atuan, the Thomas Covenant books, the Dark Tower series, Goodkind's Sword Of Truth series. Many others. (b) Terminator 2, Alien^3, the new LotR movies, Conan The Barbarian (c) Too many. Mike Oldfield, The Cynic Project, Basil Poledouris (movie soundtracks; Conan The Barbarian in particular), Jeremy Soule (video game soundtracks; Total Annihilation in particular), BitBlit, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails (d) Caramel Crunch Cake (which I've never found outside of Toronto, at least not the thing I'm talking about), Nanaimo Bars, Ruth Anne's caramel sauce, garlic mayonnaise, sour cream and onion potato chips, dried cherries.

The six things I could never do without

This question annoys me; obviously, listing biological needs is pointless, since AFAIK everyone reading this is Homo Sapiens Sapiens (that's not a typo; we're technically a sub-species). But what does it mean that "I could never do without" something that wouldn't kill me outright? I guess things that the lack of them would lead me to commit suicide, but the lack itself wouldn't kill me. Given that, the following seem like reasonable candidates, in no particular order: Use of my hands (i.e. I couldn't handle neck down paralysis I don't think), my current level of intelligence (it is possible to have brain damage such that you *know* that you can't do what you used to do; that *terrifies* me), my memory (it's bad enough right now; further damage would be nearly unbearable). Nothing else comes immediately to mind.

Of course, the question is *intended* to ask what things it would upset me to be without. So: Computers, games (board, video, RPG, whatever), lovers that I can be all cutsey with, pornography, geeky friends, science fiction and fantasy (in any form, really). I don't think that's in any order.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The Singularity. My partners. My hobbies. In about that order, as far as idle thought when I'm not actually *doing* anything goes (i.e. during car rides when I'm not listening to a book).

On a typical Friday night I am

Either going out with one of my partners or playing DDR and gaming. I tend not to leave the house without an external motivator; this is not to say that I am a misanthrope, I simply have a lot of home-based hobbies.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Ummm, there is essentially nothing private about me. If you're curious about something, just send me a message.

You should message me if

You want to. I'm not terribly worried about failing to cope with a huge flood of OKCupid mail, given the dozens of regular e-mail I get in a day.
