Chicago

Apr 25, 2011

Today is my first day living in Chicago.  It's been a stressful time, but my roommate and I got all of the stuff we wanted moved and into our new place.  The cats are doing better than I thought they would and we have an unexpected friend staying with us, Eve, the python.

I'm really hoping things will work out here.  Now I just need to find some jobs.  Yes, jobs, plural.  If anyone knows of any positions available in the Lakeview/Lincoln Park area, please drop me a line!

So, for about a year now a friend and I have been trying to get stories together to create a play in the style of the Vagina Monologues.  For these stories we want TRUE stories from women, their partners, parents, children, etc. about their experiences with abortion.  We have the basic layout for the play and at least 3 stories so far.  Hopefully we'll be getting more soon, even if it is not in time for the school's Women's Week, where we were wanting to present it.

Also, if anyone sees this post and has a story they are wanting to share, please feel free to send me a message.  As long as your story is true, I'm always looking for more information.

My roommate's cat just had kittens!!!  Two of them.  They are so tiny and adorable!  One of them has a face that makes it look kind of like an Ewok.

Random boring stuff

A friend of mine joined the Army recently and I didn't have a chance to see him before he left for boot camp.  I haven't seen him since sometime during the summer because we live several hours away.  I got a letter from him yesterday, just with some mild concern about boot camp and missing me and hoping to see each other at Christmas leave.  I was against him going and I still don't think it was worth it.  Basically he only joined to get the money or because he didn't really know what to do with his life.  I hope everything goes well for him and that he's all right.

My roommate is sick.  He's been sick since Sunday night.  It keeps seeming like he's better or he's just about to get over it, but then he walks up the stairs or puts on a button-up shirt for work and then he breaks into a sweat.  He's missed work all week, which he is not liking.

My job hasn't been giving me many hours, but it looks like I'll finally get some this weekend, roughly 15 hours.  I'm also going to start babysitting next week for a friend to supplement my income because I don't make anywhere near enough money.  Hopefully things will improve financially very soon.  My student loans are coming into repayment, so I really need to save up.
