I am brainy, goofy, and new to Nashville.
My Self-Summary
Out-of-work librarian. Cooks tasty food. Has a lot of books in her
apartment. Likes to ride her bike. Used to spend all her time in
boats.
Note: there is a distinct difference between being single and being
available. Not all single people are available. Nor are all
partnered people unavailable. I, for one, am partnered (with
grolby) and available.
If you are uncomfortable with that, stop here. If you are
comfortable with that, you must also know that my existing
relationship will always take front seat.
Related, I am not only looking for sexy-fun-times. I will totally
be your pen pal, or your doubles partner (
rowing, not tennis), or bake a cake with
you, or discus literature, or practice my Italian, or whatever. I
am looking for people between 21 and 30, and that's not
particularly negotiable, as even those upper and lower limits are
pushing it for me. Because I don't need more irritation in my life
than I get by chance, I am picky about both friends and partners.
Especially partners.
I am a
feminist,
queer-friendly, a
progressive, and in
general am big into eliminating oppressions. If you, dear reader,
are not, don't waste my time.
What I’m doing with my life
Adjusting to Nashville, after living in New York and Massachusetts
my whole life. Looking for a
library or
archive that would love to let me
arrange and describe their stuff. Working on a research project
with pre-k kids, but that will be over shortly.
In a more meta sense, I hope one day to preside over the Rare Book
Room at
Smith
College. But lets not get ahead of ourselves here.
I’m really good at
Cataloging things. Athletics. Carrying heavy stuff. Cooking.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Oh gosh,
books!
Handmaid's tale by Margaret Atwood,
Six of one by
Rite Mae Brown, the
OED,
Hitchiker's guide to the
galaxy, all those endless Robert Jordan books,
Ahab's
wife,
Transforming a rape culture (it's like the
feminist all-star
compilation! read it!). I read books like it's my job, usually at
the rate of 1-2 a week.
For music, I love the most (a) folk singing ladies, and (b) early
third wave
ska.
Strawberries, cake, cheese (strawberry
cheesecake, what?), fresh bread, well
prepared (not well done!) beef, sushi,
tomatoes. Fresh fruits and veggies in
general. I have a serious sweet tooth, and indulge it nearly as
much as I like. I used to live near a pub that made a heather ale
in the winter; I think it was the most heavenly thing I ever drank.
We cook a lot, and have gotten quite good. I particularly enjoy
making things that most people wouldn't think to make for
themselves -- breads, preserves, ginger ale, tall chocolate layer
cakes, stuff like that. I'd just about kill for a decent slice of
pizza at this point,
so please recommend a place if you know one.
My favorite blog is Shakesville.
The six things I could never do without
Warm socks. Six of them, I guess. My feet get really cold.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How
library
funding dropped precipitously about 30 years ago and has never
rebounded, and how that, combined with the current state of the
economy, which has educational institutions shitting their pants
and not hiring much, makes it rather difficult to find a job as a
librarian in Nashville.
On a typical Friday night I am
Making a tasty dinner and watching a movie at home, or at a bar
with a bunch of biologists.
You should message me if
Our match and friend percentages are high, and our enemy percentage
is low. OKCupid does a good job with this stuff, and I can not
understand why one wouldn't pay it any attention. (Ok, since I am a
little interested in why someone would send a message to a person
they are not well matched with, you should message me if this is
the case, but only on this topic.) You are much more likely to get
a response with an asynchronous message, rather than an instant
one.
You haven't listed Ayn Rand or any of her books as a favorite.
Seriously.
And I'm mean it about the age thing.
