My self-summary
I guess I'm still relatively new to this city. I'm coming up on the one year mark and I've definitely ready for year #2. I grew up in Metro Detroit and spent the three years prior to coming to Seattle working and living in the city. I'm starting to get to up to speed with things here in this area and all of the lovely things that it has to offer. I'd like to think to think that I have a strong orientation towards social justice in my work and life style. I spend a decent amount of time thinking about race, class, and privilege and who relates to all aspects of our society, including life here in Seattle and the Northwest at large. My experience here thus far suggests I have slightly different orientation towards life than some folks in Seattle.
I'm a true introvert; I really enjoy going out with friends and spending time with them otherwise, but I'm not so much into going out for the sake of going out. I'm an old soul and much of what seems to occupy my contemporaries in my mind constitutes empty social stuff. However, I don't judge :).
I'd like to think that my interests are quite varied and I have in insatiable appetite to learn about whatever it is I'm interested in.
I'm one of the least materialistic people I know, almost to the point of absurdity. I don't mean this in the self-righteous sense, I don't equate taking pleasure in material objects with being shallow. I just tend not to accumulate a lot of objects and find it's easiest for me to live this way.
What I’m doing with my life
Right now I work as a social worker for a modest sized non-profit that provides housing and other services to folks diagnosed with HIV and AIDS. Ostensibly I moved out here for this job. My responsibilities are quite varied and thankfully I get to spend a decent amount of my feet (as well at the computer). My work is equal parts purposeful and also exhausting! It's important for spiritual and emotional preservation to keep a decently active life outside of work.
I’m really good at
Guitar, , figuring out what's bothering me, writing, writing with run on sentences, making interesting conversation, indulging super-interesting tangents, listening, most games involving trivia.
The first things people usually notice about me
For some people it's my energy level. I'm pretty gregarious in some situations. In some cases, it's my red tinted beard (natural).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I'm in a fiction group and I devote most of my reading time to keep with up. Some of my favorite authors include Margaret Atwood, Ken Kesey, Alan Watts, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Haruki Murakami. I also spend a little time reading contemporary psychology lit.

Movies: The Guard, Cedar Rapids, Away We Go, The Hurt Locker, The Godfather (I and II), The Quiet American, The Baxter, Blue Velvet, Away We Go, The Deer hunter, Into the Wild, Most Wes Anderson films and some Woody Allen. Older films as well. I'm pretty big on documentaries as well. The last one I saw was "Tabloid."

TV Shows: This where I'm supposed to talk about how either I don't have a television or I don't watch TV, right? I actually don't own a TV right now, but not out of any dogmatic opposition. My favorite shows include Mad Men, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Northern Exposure, Kids in the Hall, Strangers with Candy, Daily Show, Colbert Report, and Parks & Recreation. I try to watch my Detroit sports teams whenever I get the opportunity to out here.

Music: Deerhunter, Sigur Ros, Mirah, Tallest Man on Earth, Frontier Ruckus, , Bill Calahan/Smog, Bon Iver, Wilco Okkervil River, Townes Van Zandt, Curtis Mayfield, John Lennon (solo), The Supremes, Bob Dylan, Elliott Smith, , Neutral Milk Hotel, The Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, most Mo-Town.

Food: I'm a strict vegetarian. I don't think I really qualify as being a foodie, but I'm pretty adventurous within the confines of vegetarianism. I'm really digging a lot of the food options here in Seattle, but I do pine for the Mexican and Lebanese cuisine of my home city.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
The seemingly incomprehensible, whether we should have more words for love in our lexicon, my Detroit sports teams, work, the people in my life, whatever I'm passionate about and is burning on my mind.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hopefully something fun, unless I'm totally exhausted.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have neither a car or a microwave.
