Working on a reading list that just keeps getting longer however frantically I approach it. Occasionally interviewing applicants for the position of Ms Write.

Languages; looking disappointed in my students when they don't do the reading; overdressing for conferences and underdressing for work; snarky emails to the people at the writing center.

That beneath my cardigan lurks the coiled sexual power of a jungle cat, OF COURSE.

Oh, favorites, I hate favorites; I prefer "flavor of the minute."

Books - Graham Greene is a god. Reading Vergil with my class. Enjoying the Seferis and Said I'm reading for work. Trying out Rumi, still making up my mind.

Movies - Django, Django, Django! I want to write a paper about it. Wes Anderson's brilliant. The 'Up' documentaries. Godard's Mepris. Eric Rohmer, David Lynch, Fellini. Vertigo. Woody Allen, esp Love and Death. Lost in Translation. Margaret. Just re-watched Mulholland Drive - so good!

Shows - ARCHER!!! 30 Rock, Larry Sanders, Seinfeld, Arrested Development, The Wire, Sopranos, Twin Peaks.

Music - Sinead O'Connor, Neil Young, Nick Cave, Radiohead, Leonard Cohen. Elvis Costello!

Food - Bourbon Manhattans; or heck, just plain bourbon! Poutine, oysters, ribs, fried chicken, pizza, tapenade, pulled pork, jambalaya, frisee salad w lardons, duck confit, red beans and rice, meaty pasta, steak tartare, duck-fat fries, mussels. Chicken n waffles. Hey, this is just the stuff I love - I don't eat it every day, or most days even.

A big university library; summers off for travel; good quality cocktails; beauty in every conceivable shape and form; the interwebz; exercise.

How language makes meaning; how much STUFF I have to do; getting my next promotion; where I'm going to travel next; this crazy world we live in.

Either out and about or resting up for a morning of writing and exercise; I have to get one such morning in most weekends, but it can be Saturday or Sunday.

Narcissistic personality disorder (just kidding! kind of...); I like to write poetry, and actually think I'm good at it. Oy vey, how embarrassing!

Let's face it, this may be the 21st century, but I'm the one likely to be doing the messaging. Still, on the off chance, msg me if:

-You know how to give AND take;
-You have a life of your own, and know how to be together AND apart.
