Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Let's see how much of this I can fit on one page.... I like to
think of myself as well-educated, with a liberal measure of common
sense (perhaps a rare combo?), but never take myself too seriously;
secure, fit, a lover of the outdoors; a deep thinker, but also a
spontaneous and irreverent comic. I'm down-to-earth, funny, and
warm with those who can open up. Politically, I'd be considered
solidly left-leaning -- or perhaps far left, depending on what part
of the spectrum you're viewing from. As in, "Yes we ARE our
brothers' keepers", and "From each according to his ability, to
each according to his need." Can you dig it? ;) Not religious, but
spiritual. My interests include history, politics, art,
photography, science, human rights and social justice. Also find a
good deal of relaxation in woodworking, tinkering with mechanical
and electrical gadgets of all sorts, and lately, learning to play a
recently acquired alto saxophone. Among my favorite photographers
are Sebastiao Salgado and Dorothea Lange. Too many favorite
musicians for a short list.
Oh, one other thing.... There's a section at the end of this page
where I'm supposed to tell you what I'm "Looking For". New friends
are always nice, although I think we usually find the nicest of
friends when we're ~not~ looking for them. Whatever happens after
that, who's to say? :)
I am irreverent, inquisitive, and never speechless
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Wow, can I change the question slightly? OK then.... ;) I think
"life" is the summation of all those unexpected things that happen
to us along the road, in spite of all our careful (and sometimes
contrary) planning. And "living" is really about seeing the big
picture, and being open to the unexpected, and making the most of
the surprises that we encounter along the way. And perhaps most
importantly, it's about "paying forward" -- doing the right thing
for others, just because that's the right thing to do. My opinion,
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Hmmmmmm.... Having lonnnnnnng conversations, I guess -- whether
it's with someone I've known forever, or someone I've just met.
Telling stories. Listening to other people's stories. Provoking
laughter from others. Or provoking deep thought. Sometimes I can do
both of those at the same time. :)
Working on getting "really good" at snowboarding. ;) Also working
on getting "reasonably good" at playing sax -- and in the process,
learning some very cool stuff about sax maintenance and
And I can fix just about anything. I guess I'm really good at that.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Uhhhhhm, that I talk a lot? ;)

Books: So many that it defies all attempts at list-making. Most of
what I read these days is non-fiction -- political analysis,
current American and world events, American foreign policy and all
the resultant blunders, American economic policy and its impact on
society, philosophy, science, mathematics, an occasional book on
photography, astronomy. One little book I love is very old --
Strunk and White's "The Elements of Style".
Movies: Likewise, way too many to list them all. A few favorites,
just off the top of my head, in no particular order -- Wizard of
Oz, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, The Outlaw Josie Wales, The Enemy
Below, High Noon, Harold & Maude, A Clockwork Orange,
Something's Gotta Give, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Cyborg 2087, The Day
the Earth Stood Still.
Music: Extremely varied tastes. The art of making a musical
instrument convey your artistic feelings is something I can
appreciate, so I can enjoy almost any style of music performed
live. What I enjoy listening to depends on my mood, or on what I'm
doing at the moment.
Food: I'm pretty adventurous. Really love cuisine that features hot
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Dark chocolate, red wine, hot peppers, prime numbers, great places
to buy books and music, and engaging conversations with good
friends. There, that's six. ;) And I wouldn't complain if we got a
little more snow this winter.
