I am built like a, 140 lb shithouse, and kind.

My Self-Summary

It's hard for me to think of much to write here other than a bunch of positive generalities, but I bet you'll like me.

Like most people, I think my taste reflects well on me. I like: Stevie Wonder, John Coltrane, David Foster Wallace, Eva Cassidy, Jackie Chan, the Boston Celtics, Alfred Hitchcock, Tower of Power, the movies "Local Hero" and "Little Miss Sunshine", and playing pickup sports. But I also really like lots of people who don't like any of those things. So give me a try.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm in graduate school studying philosophy, and I teach Business Ethics to undergrads.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Infinite Jest; The Solitaire Mystery; Huck Finn. I'm on a mystery kick right now -- Sherlock Holmes, Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett. I also like kids books: Phillip Pullman; Brian Jacques; and (sure) J.K. Rowling. Calvin & Hobbes. For nonfiction, I really like Common Ground, by J. Anthony Lukas.

Movies: Hitchcock; Jackie Chan; Local Hero; Lawrence of Arabia; Little Miss Sunshine; Hoosiers...

Music: John Coltrane; Tower of Power; Nina Simone; Eva Cassidy; Geoff Bartley; Stevie Wonder; anything funky and most stuff that's folky.

Food: Lots... I'm not going to start listing a bunch of foodstuffs. I really like barbecue and I really like spicy sauce, but I try to eat meat relatively rarely because I feel a little bit guilty about eating it.

The six things I could never do without

"Could never do without" is pretty strong, but here are six things that I really prefer doing with:

Public libraries; public parks (especially with little workout stations, like the ones that have pullup bars, etc.); Public basketball and tennis courts; whisky; a recliner; a booklight.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

This has nothing to do with the prompt, but some of my favorite quotes are:

"If you promise someone something, keep it." (fortune cookie)

"My game is like the Pythagorean Theorem; no one can solve it." -Shaq

"You may win a game or two using a mathematical strategy, but in the long run it will never work." -Shaq

'I'm going to propose that I tell you a joke, Boo, on the condition that afterward you shush and let me sleep.' 'Is it a good one?' 'Mario, what do you get when you cross an insomniac, an unwilling agnostic, and a dyslexic.' 'I give.' 'You get someone who stays up all night torturing himself about whether or not there's a dog.' (David Foster Wallace)

You should message me if

You're a combination of Grace Kelly and Dorothy Parker and Jane Addams. (Of course that could end up being pretty unattractive if you've got the wrong attributes of each!) But really I'll probably be happy if you message me no matter what. I'd like to meet new people.
