I am arty, nerdy, and human.

My Self-Summary

I was born and raised in California and moved to Minneapolis in 2004 for school. Most of the time I don't regret this decision (i.e., except from December-March). One of the things I love about Minneapolis is the art community, and I'm always looking for new ways to experience it. Know of any fun things to share?

What I’m doing with my life

I'm studying social psychology at the U of M. I've always been interested in understanding everyday social behavior, so this is a natural fit. Beware, if you ask me about it, I might completely nerd-out. For real.

Outside of the often stifling culture of academia, I try to immerse myself in the arts community. For example, I'm currently training to be a docent at the Walker Art Center and I volunteer as an usher at the Southern Theater. I love love love modern dance, so I try to see a performance at least once per month. (I performed in a piece last summer 09 at the Southern called "en masse").

I also dabble in my own art, which mostly looks like something a kid would produce, but I justify it by comparing it to a lot of the pieces you'd find at any modern art museum (in fact that's what I love about modern art- the idea that art is subjective and to appreciate it usually involves some sort of reflection rather than passive viewing).

I've also been getting more into film these days. Right now I'm exploring the French New Wave. I know very little about film, so I'm always open to suggestions.

I’m really good at

watching bad/campy reality tv (mostly on Bravo). Procrastinating.

The first things people usually notice about me

People usually say my eyes.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

books: David Sedaris, the Wicked series, autobiographies and biographies of interesting personalities (e.g., Cary Grant, Marie Antoinette, Augusten Burroughs), travel books (to satisfy my wanderlust), and spirituality

music (in alphabetical order): ABBA, Alicia Keys, Andrew Bird, Annie Lenox, B-52's, Bajofondo, Brazillian Girls, Bjork, Blondie, Cardigans, Carole King, Celia Cruz, Celine Dion, Cesaria Evora, Chaka Kahn, Crystal Castles, Dalida, D'Angelo, Daddy Yankee, Dee-lite, Diane Birch, Don Omar, Duffy, Elastica, Elvis Presley, Estelle, Fleetwood Mac, Freemasons, Franz Ferdinand, Garbage, Glass Candy, Goldfrapp, Heather Headley, John Legend, Jonny Lang, Joss Stone, Kings of Convenience, The Killers, The Kills, Kish Mauve, Ladyhawke, Le Tigre, Lo-Fi-Ink, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Maxwell, M.I.A., Missy Elliott, Peaches, Queen, Sade, Sam Sparro, Sheryl Crow, Snoop Dogg, The Staple Singers, Steve Miller Band, Sugarcubes, Telepopmusik, Temposhark, Tiga, Tiromancino, Tiziano Ferro, Yelle

food: I eat just about everything. I've recently discovered white fish after a life-long commitment to eating only chicken and beef. But pink fish is still a no-no. And raw fish- ick!

The six things I could never do without

in no particular order:

1: my MacBook (I HATE that I've become a Mac person, but now I totally get it)
2: peanut butter
3: fun shoes
4: day-dreaming
5: my winter parka
6: artists

I spend a lot of time thinking about

"I should be working. Oh... what's that shiny little thing over there?"

On a typical Friday night I am

hanging with friends (dinner and a movie) - or - relaxing at home with a cup of tea and piece of cake.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I listen to "dance" music when I work out, like electronica and trance. I think it's super cheesy, but at least it takes my mind off the sweating part.

You should message me if

if you like what you see.
