My self-summary
I'm a particle accelerator physicist living in the Mission. I like hanging out in the neighborhood, getting coffee, browsing books, eating at places I've never been and places I've been a hundred times.

I like quiet nights in watching movies or good shows on Netflix/Hulu/Bittorrent.

I get excited when seeing live performance, be it music, video, dance, or preferably, all three together. The energy I get makes me want to create things. Pretty things. Noisy things. Difficult things. Fun things.

I'm pretty funny, at least to other physicists.

Road trips to Sonoma or Santa Cruz or Tahoe make me happy. Especially if there's wine-tasting involved.

Bourbon is my drink of choice. Kentucky Vintage 17, neat.

I enjoy cooking whenever I get the chance. Sometimes simple, sometimes elaborate. Usually tasty.

I sometimes like playing video games.

I'm a dabbler in music composition and visual arts, but my heart does belong to science.
What I’m doing with my life
I work at a national laboratory doing fundamental research into the nature of the universe and it's constituent bits. It's what I love doing and what I plan on doing for the foreseeable future. I'm surrounded by intelligent people from around the globe and have the intellectual freedom to explore ideas that excite me.

I'm currently teaching myself how to play the piano (or at least a couple Phillip Glass and Erik Satie pieces) and going to the gym at work for a couple hours a few times a week to play basketball.

Making the cover of Nature.
I’m really good at
Lots of things.

Building, fixing, reading, comprehending, listening, sleeping, driving, cooking, making coffee, finding good shows to watch and music to listen to...
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably my height--6'4" isn't an aspirational goal, it's legit.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love all kinds of books, movies, music, and food.

Finding new restaurants to check out, music to listen to, movies to watch, books to read...some of my favorite things.

To list all the musical artists I like would probably overflow this buffer. Suffice to say my tastes are both broad and deep. Some recent (and old standby) favorite genres include post-metal, alt.hip-hop, eye dee emm, indie rawk, ambient/drone, noise, jungle/drum'n'bass, microhouse, heroin house, glitch, ...well, perhaps you get the idea.
The six things I could never do without
I assume this excludes non-material things like family, friends, love, et al, but I'll have to come back to this one.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Whether or not the chromatic aberrations are astigmatic or just a result of large energy spread.

How long it's going to take me to learn to play Satie.
Do I really need a bigger super-charger?
Will I ever be able to dunk again?
Is it time to try out a memory foam bed?
Is there any good music I'm not listening to right now?
What's for dinner?
On a typical Friday night I am
It depends on what has happened in the previous 6 days. Not all Fridays are created equal...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've got a terrible poker face.
You should message me if
I'd like to meet someone...

...someone to go to experimental art shows with. Someone to explore the myriad restaurants in the area. Drink wine. Play games. Cook amazing meals for each other. Go to the park. Check out the latest exhibits at MoMA. Play board games. Go for a drive somewhere. Have a picnic. See movies. Watch TV. Perhaps a trip to Paris or Moscow...

A reader. A thinker. A creator. I don't have a specific type, really. Intelligent, assertive, attractive, curious, and successful always do nicely, however.
