My Self-Summary
Patron of Poor Conversationalists,
Bookworms, and the Jubilant,
And neither sibyl nor goddess,
But mortal: lover and liver of Life,
[. . .
. . .
. . . staunch?] advocate of Liberty,
Eater of tofu and drinker of tea—
Who wanders, far and wide,
On pacifist, Birkenstocked-foot
Through the peaks and valleys of Life,
Which echo with her abundant laughter,
[. . .]
Armed with her books and many tongues—
And perhaps even a modicum of cognizance!—
Against the ofttimes cruel fancies of Fortune
On this, her ephemeral Quest . . .
--fragment from Homer's lost "Sareia," I.1-18 (translated from the original nonsense)
What I’m doing with my life
I just finished up my B.A. in Classics at the University of Southern California, and have now left SoCal for the first time in my life to begin my graduate studies at OSU.
The first things people usually notice about me
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Favorite movies: Adaptation., Amelie, Being John Malkovich, Dogma, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Everything is Illuminated, Garden State, I Heart Huckabees, Love Actually, Some Like It Hot, 10 Things I Hate About You, Wedding Crashers, Young Frankenstein, and anything Monty Python
Favorite music: Bach, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Joshua Bell, Cake, Chopin, Judy Collins, Sheryl Crow, Death Cab for Cutie, Dido, the Doors, Dvorak, Bob Dylan, Franz Ferdinand, Green Day, Hank Williams, Chris Isaak, Jewel, Liszt, Maroon 5, Joni Mitchell, Modest Mouse, Alanis Morissette, Muse, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Elvis Presley, Rachmaninoff, Damien Rice, Semisonic, Simon and Garfunkel, Santana, Frank Sinatra, Smetana, Tchaikovsky
Favorite foods: Greek, Japanese, Thai, Indian, Ethiopian, and anything with a good kick. I also like those "weird" vegetarian/vegan/raw-food restaurants. I recently returned to veganism after a short break living in Italy (hard enough being a vegetarian there!).
The six things I could never do without
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Fate.
Love.
Intimacy.
Haecceity.
denique nullumst iam dictum quod non dictum sit prius. --Terence
On a typical Friday night I am
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
If that's not "private" enough for you: I also drool uncontrollably in my sleep.
