My self-summary
Raised in NYC, lived in China, Taiwan, and Japan for over five years before returning to the States for grad school. Am now a professor of East Asian history and reacquainting myself with Tokyo.

I have spent a lot of time traveling to non-Western parts of the world. Most recently been to Zambia, Lebanon, Berlin, and would love to visit Istanbul and Moscow.

You: multicultural background/interests, curious, passionate about your work and the art of life.
What I’m doing with my life
Teaching, yoga, boxing, long unhurried talks over dinner, watching films (especially foreign).
I’m really good at
Asking questions (even if some might think it's prying), analyzing human behavior, keeping up positive energy.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I'm Korean -- except I'm not.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Writers: Jonathan Franzen, Kazuo Ishiguro, F. Scott Fitzgerald
Directors: Woody Allen, Cameron Crowe, Noah Baumbach, Wong Kar Wai, Woody Allen, Spike Lee, Richard Linklater, Edward Yang

The six things I could never do without
Conversation with close friends, coffee, yoga, intellectual and emotional stimulus, surprises in life.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to improve myself in both body and spirit; comparing Asian cultures; ways to put myself in situations where I can find people to connect with.
On a typical Friday night I am
Giving my colleagues a hard time over drinks, eating with a friend, watching a movie, planning adventures.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
It's hard for me to hide what I'm feeling/thinking. It shows clearly on my face.
You should message me if
You're quirky, feel comfortable with not being "normal," and want to connect with someone with different cultural experiences yet similar tastes.
