My self-summary
I am open to exploring new experiences.

"Character is not only doing the right thing when no one is looking, it’s doing the right thing when everyone is looking. It’s being willing to do the right thing even when it costs more than you want to pay." - Michael Josephson

I believe the way we live our lives and the way we treat other people matter considerably. The virtues I admire, I try to put into personal practice. I value peace, relaxation, love, beauty, nature - but because there is always something valuable that needs doing, I do not engage those as often as I should.

I am attracted most to people I have positive emotions about. Consideration towards others, an attitude of respect, and a smile: these go a long way with me.
What I’m doing with my life
I am concerned about how society treats people, concerned about unbridled capitalism, and concerned about the weaponizing of so much of what humans do. I work with science, but I try to think about the consequences of my action, and if I anticipate that something will be used for repression, then I refuse to work on it. I volunteer my skills for peaceful purposes.

I am not a campaigner or activist as such, but from time to time I help create infrastructure that they can use.
I’m really good at
Taking the road less traveled. Explaining technical concepts. Finding patterns in facts. Various kinds of computer work, especially STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
The first things people usually notice about me
My nose. (people find me easy to recognize but have trouble saying why, so I joke that it is my nose.)

I do not tend to attract attention, "in one eye and out the other" so to speak. But at the same time I am told I have "presence", that I am sometimes bigger than life.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I like a variety of genres of books, but my reading time is my time for getting off the computer and relaxing, so you will mostly find me reading science fiction and fantasy. I have a fondness for literature of the 1800s. Online, I read a lot of news; science summaries; technical material; and social issues.

Unfortunately I have no musical creation skills at all. A very tiny bit of singing at most.

My musical tastes are diverse. Some of the artists I particularly enjoy include: Abdullah Ibrahim (Dollar Brand); Brian Eno; Carole King; Jane Siberry; Joni Mitchell; Kate Bush; Laurie Anderson; Michelle Shocked; Nick Cave (but I have to be in the mood); Paul Horn; Supertramp; Suzanne Vega; Valdy; William S. Burroughs; The Wyrd Sisters; along with a fair selection of Jazz artists and collections from a variety of eras. I continue to be pleasantly surprised by various World Music.

My movie list will be extended later. My two favorite movies are Wings of Desire (Der Himmel über Berlin), and Koyaanisqatsi. I have a soft spot for the 1980 "Flash Gordon" (with the Queen soundtrack.)

I mostly gave up TV in early university when I realized how much of my time it was eating.. Now-a-days, the little I watch is usually investigative or documentary, but once in a while I make time for Saturday Night Live. South Park often amuses me if I happen to see it. (If anyone ever did a reboot of The Prisoner, I would totally watch that!)
The six things I could never do without
My self-determination: I would rather go to jail than "just follow orders".
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Self determination. Scientific Computing. Gender. Compassion for others.
On a typical Friday night I am
Reading, or volunteering my technical skills.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I am trans, MTF partly transitioned.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like girls
  • Ages 28–60
  • Located anywhere
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating, casual sex
You should message me if
you have an inner drive towards creation or learning or helping or protection: something that giving up would be like taking away a part of you. You engage in something meaningful to you. Preferably something you enjoy talking about. You might, for example, be a sculptor, or a folk singer, or an inventor of solar cookers, or an astrobiologist, or an exotic dancer: whatever you are, you express yourself through what you do.

Note: for dating I am seeking females only. For friendships I would consider anyone.
