My self-summary
I am a woman who laughs, spontaneously and joyously. I seem to find a lot to laugh about. It's a good thing because life offers a fair amount of reasons to frown. Frowning only makes the creases creasier. I am a believer in science who understands the value of myth and also enjoys the study of astrology. I work on keeping a strong inner vision of all of life's very best aspects; love, work and play, not always in that order. I read voraciously, practice yoga, walk daily, love to cook and garden. I am happiest with a day that includes all of the above but need what the city offers--art, music, theater, people watching, junking, and opportunities for just dorking around. I delight in beautiful shoes, but also in grubbing in the dirt, getting it under my fingernails. I am opinionated, but instinctively fair. Love to debate an issue with another who endeavors to think a thing to death. I am creative, emotionally courageous, honest, curious and kind. Also willful, tenacious, forceful and at times frozen by indecision(Libra Moon). I am a good friend who delights in hours of serious discussion, can be seriously charmed by someone who can wield a word, and truly believe that we humans are here to have a rip snortin' good time.
What I’m doing with my life
Getting better at being me. Looking for adventures of the heart and also the traveling kind. Getting back to writing and painting. Loving my work more than ever. Walking and hiking and practicing yoga.
I’m really good at
Helping people feel comfortable, making beautiful surroundings, loving the people I love, my work, playing, figuring out how to grow a seed of an idea into a full blown tree, multi tasking, cooking, loving dogs, creating enthusiam, and collecting things.
The first things people usually notice about me
My silver hair, my laugh, and my willingness to engage. They may notice on certain days that I've had a lot of fun getting dressed. On the other days they may notice that I have run to the car in my leopard flannel jammies and my fleece, with wild hair and that I don't seem to care too much.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Oh god, I hate this question. I would rather do this with you in the room. But here are a few writers I love: Nabokov (especially Ada), Franzen, Alice Hoffman, Roth, Hardy, Dickens, Twain, John Irving, Jim Harrison, McKewan, McCarthy, Shaw, Julien Barnes. The list is long. I am fairly easily entertained by films--I'm lulled by the big colorful images, so of course I am a fool for musicals and can sing along to many of them. Also love twisted and dark film makers like Lena Wertmuller. Love a dorky murder mystery and an elegant spy thriller. Music? All? Polka, Strauss waltzes, jazz vocals, Ornette Coleman, Miles Davis, rock, Debussy, Joni Mitchell, Bruce, lots of the new kids, Peruvian pipes, ??? Food? the simple to the sublime. Never get tired of Thai or simple healthy Mexican. Love a serious meal from the Piedmont region of Italy, French country food, exquisite chinese, sardines and other weird fish in Spain, but mostly lately cook and eat fresh local goodies.
The six things I could never do without
Love, beauty around me, humor, the ability to have perspective, my friends, the natural world here and the heavens above. My dog Sophie would have been on this list but she departed.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Everything. Mysteries, unexplained medical phenomena, ephemera, my friends, the energetic body, astrology, how to make my life more consistent with my values, the nature of love, how to find the oases of order amidst the chaos, etc.
On a typical Friday night I am
Ready to have some quiet time as I am still working and engage pretty intensely with people all week. A glass of wine and a book and some food sounds nice. Maybe MadMen or Greys Anatomy re- runs.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I like to fall asleep with the TV on sometimes. It's like a lullaby, which I need because my mind active, but then having the TV on when you are trying to sleep is counter productive so I end up waking up after an hour or so and turning it off. Ha.
