I am nerdy, literate, and liberal.
My Self-Summary
I'm a nerd, semi-professionally.
I started riding a bike again when I moved to Seattle two years
ago, so any excuse to do that--without wearing skin-tight leggings
or reading cyclist magazines--is welcome. So I like getting out and
doing stuff like that--biking, hiking, walking through the
city--and I mix that up with my love of
gizmos, couches, and
fancy beers. It's a pleasant
balance.
What I’m doing with my life
Freelance writing for newspapers and magazines. Volunteering at a
tutoring center.
Currently focusing on my nerd-writing portfolio, though music
writing still pays the bills. I also have designs on grad school in
the near future to get into teaching kids about writing/journalism.
I’m really good at
finding interesting things to do in any city I find myself in (take
me traveling anywhere and I will dig up dive bars, food stands, and
art exhibits out of the blue). Also: giving weirdos on the bus the
benefit of the doubt, combining words that shouldn't be combined,
fixing friends' laptops, editing friends' cover letters, and making
scrambled eggs and omelets.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I'm pretty good at first impressions in terms of conversation
and thinking on my feet. Or that I'm a ginger.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
MUSIC: I was compared to Jack Black's High Fidelity character when
I worked at a record store in college. But the guy who said that
was a crackhead who wanted more money for his used CDs. Fat chance,
cracky.
MOVIES: Yeah, High Fidelity was good.
BOOKS: Liked the book a little better.
FOOD: I used to not like gyros, but now I do, so I don't really
have any food dislikes in mind. In particular, I'm a
homesick Texan
always craving better tacos. Prefer cooking over eating out
whenever possible.
The six things I could never do without
I'm more curious what happens if I am without these six things.
Would I grow tentacles?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
We live in a democracy, but we don't have direct control of how our
country is run, so people act like every problem is something for
some higher-up person to deal with. I think about how people pass
the political/responsibility buck and get into pointless red/blue
squabbles as a result.
I also think about lesson stuff for tutoring, or what I might cook,
or the zillions of records I'm juggling on my hard drive, or why
dark chocolate peanut butter is so amazing.
On a typical Friday night I am
laying low, because the rest of the week is better for movies, art
exhibits, shows, less-crowded bars, and driving around/exploring
Seattle.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Attended a Limp Bizkit concert in 1999 and enjoyed it. Wes Borland
is a really good pop guitarist, and that's what I tell myself to
cope. Ugh.
You should message me if
* if you're into nerdy things but also love to hike, camp, or even
just drive some random place when the mood strikes
* if you think watching episodes of Freaks & Geeks AGAIN is a
perfectly fine way to spend a Tuesday night
* if turning up the car stereo too loud is a good idea in your
book
* if you've made it to the end of these millions of questions...
Jesus, is this eHarmony?
