My self-summary
jeez, three blanks (did you have any luck with that?)

Okay, here goes - son, brother, uncle. Scot, Texan, Longhorn. Tinker, tailor, spy (nah, but I love the word "tinker").

I used to think of myself as something of a chameleon - moving around, changing jobs, reinventing hearth and home. I feel less changeable as I get older, but the changes are more meaningful. Moving to New York (2002) was a big change; now it's hard to imagine living anywhere else (but I do sometimes). I'm a freelance writer and editor in the arts, so there are frequent changes in my work life; I love starting new projects (and finishing current ones).

If you're into personality typologies, I'm an INFP/J...Enneagram 5...Sagittarius with nothing but fire in my chart (so I'm told). More interested in going to a movie than a party, love the mountains and avoid the beach (except off-season), a low-maintenance guy with low-maintenance friends, love to be in love (but have less experience with relationships). I have a strong appetite for ideals and the beautiful, and a healthy interest in their opposites. When it comes to the arts, I'm polymorphously perverse. Alcohol makes me cheerful and sleepy. I like road trips.

I am this, that, and the other.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I remember in college feeling like I'd been rearranged when I saw Blue Velvet (like everything had been confirmed and unhinged simultaneously)...about the same time I was reading and loving the novels of Jean Rhys, Philip Roth, Margaret Atwood, and Theodore Dreiser (for a class).

These days, I'm in a Jung discussion group and read a lot of that sort of thing, with the occasional novel (Middlesex). Loved The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Most recently, really enjoyed J. C. Oates's The Accursed and The Golem and the Jinni. Love the films of George Stevens (Alice Adams, Giant). A recent French film, Ballroom, got me excited about making movies again (my college background).
