I am dorky, classy, and witty.
My Self-Summary
I am a dude with a particular way about him. I place great value on
a person's intelligence, their sense of humor, their ability to
banter, and their taste in music and movies. I've also been known,
like Larry David, to be charmingly neurotic. You would do best to
accept that these aspects of my person will not likely change,
'cause that's just how I roll. As Ray Smuckles might say, "That's
fine, 'cause that's okay."
If I could live anywhere, it'd be Stars Hollow or Hobbiton
(assuming I had access to high-speed internet), the celebrity I
most resemble is a less sullen and bitchy William Randolph Hearst,
and my favorite on-screen sex scene is John Hurt and the facehugger
in "Alien".
Also, if you voted "yes" on Prop 8, I'm very disappointed in you.
Mr. Sulu and Doogie Howser, M.D. were counting on us, man!
What I’m doing with my life
I am currently a child development assistant, which is basically a
glorified term for babysitting kids in before- and after-school
programs. I enjoy it well enough (Getting paid to play four square?
Yes, please.), but it's a job. It's not a career.
My ambitions are a bit scattershot. I have a passion for both film
and literature, and have probably consumed entirely too much of
both. I write when I can, and if I had my druthers I'd be a film
maker, both writing and directing, but I would be quite content
with any sort of job that relied on my creativity rather than
drudgery.
I’m really good at
I like to think of writing as one of my strong suits, though
there's always someone out there like Kurt Vonnegut or Chris Onstad
to make me feel wholly inadequate. Nevertheless, I strive to suck a
little less at it each day.
I'm also a decent cook, but there's always room for improvement.
The first things people usually notice about me
Dashing good looks; striking modesty.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I love movies. Some of my favorites include The Good, the Bad, and
the Ugly, Blade Runner, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Third Man,
Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Rashōmon. This is a very conservative
list, as I could go on for hours on this subject, and no one wants
that.
Good television is just as enjoyable good cinema, and I think
Firefly, Spaced, The Wire, Gilmore Girls, Carnivàle, and Flight of
the Conchords are all wonderful examples of what is right in
television. I've also recently become enamored with the American
version of The Office, after years of bitter hatred based around my
love of the original British version. But my icy heart has melted
and I can now admit that they are both really rad.
I read a lot, too. I've always enjoyed it, but I've been trying to
read a lot more after Rory Gilmore made me feel so inadequate. Fear
and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, Good
Omens, Slaughterhouse-Five, 1984, The Long Sleep, and Atlas
Shrugged are all books I would be happy to have with me in the
event of a mild catastrophe that left ample time for reading (being
stuck in an elevator, crashing on a desert island, limited nuclear
engagement, etcetera).
As for music, I adore everything that is good and abhor everything
that is bad. Good things? Tom Waits, The Clash, M. Ward, David
Bowie, The New Pornographers, The Kinks, Pixies, and many, many
others. Bad things? Anything by Papa Roach or could conceivably be
enjoyed by members of Papa Roach.
I think you get the idea. I take this shit kind of seriously.
The six things I could never do without
Surprise, fear, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion
to the Pope, and nice red uniforms.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Life. The planet. The universe. The intricacies of social
etiquette.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with friends, trying out new restaurants, drinking the
occasional girly drink (Cosmos are delicious), chillin' out, maxin'
relaxin' all cool, playin' some b-ball outside the school. You
know, the usual.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
As a child, I had a ridiculous fear of being abducted by aliens.
Also, I think "Mandy" by Barry Manilow is a really enjoyable song,
and the world is just going to have to accept that. And most
privately, I have a man-crush on Don Draper.
