My self-summary

I have recently returned to the Boston area for a new job, having spent several years in Pittsburgh, completing my Ph.D. Though I am always happy when teaching or researching, I also enjoy my life outside my work, walking on city streets or forest pathways, dancing, cooking, talking, and traveling. I love the energy and spark of Boston and Cambridge, as well as New England's rocky coastline and forests.

Hopeful about new relationship possibilities, I am looking for someone who is kind, self-aware, perceptive, thoughtful and fun. Having been married, I know that relationships, at their best, can be sensual, supportive and full of laughter. I would like to find a long-term relationship with someone with whom I can connect physically, emotionally and intellectually. Although I feel that I am not likely to produce children, I very much like children, and it would be all right if my future partner had children; it would also be all right if a future partner did not have children.

If you are intrigued, I hope you will send me a note!

The first things people usually notice about me
People seem to notice that I'm somewhat tall, energetic and have a good sense of humor. I have also been told that I am loyal and ambitious.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I like mysteries/thrillers that are suspenseful page-turners, such as those by Ken Follet or Lisa Scottiline. I also like everything Jhumpa Lahiri writes because her prose is spare, yet descriptive, and her characters seem so authentic and intensely human.

Movies: I like movies with intense dramatic plots ("The Fighter," "The Town," "Fair Game," about Valerie Plame) or great cinamatography ("Off the Map") or witty, funny humor ("Analyze This" with Billy Crystal and Robert Deniro.

Music: Eric Clapton (great blues guitar!), Van Morrison, REM (they have been around so long and have evolved so much), The Wallflowers, Lady Gaga, Enrico Iglesias, Grey Eye Glances, Damien Rice, Bruce Springsteen (terrific ballads!), Cowboy Junkies (heard them live in Pittsburgh!), B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robert Cray.
Food: Indian, Thai, Japanese, Malaysian, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese.
The six things I could never do without
Connections (to friends, family, ideas, places, the self)
The phrase, "I'm here," spoken by a friend.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What I can learn from other people. I like listening to radically different political, religious, intellectual, cultural opinions than mine (or even different opinions on fun topics, such as movies), and I very much enjoy healthy, respectful debates, and I always like hearing opinions and perspectives that are different from my own. I like hearing about other peoples' experiences in general that differ from mine.

What to cook for dinner.

How to stay healthy.
On a typical Friday night I am
Sometimes I have dinner with friends from school. Other times, I watch movies. Sometimes I like to simply chill out by listening to music to clear my mind. Or I go out to dance.
