I am geeky, grinning, and game.
My Self-Summary
I occasionally ask myself: "wait; is this what a human would do?"
Most of the time the answer is yes.
I'm a natural-born skeptic who has honed her skills in the
sciences. But I am an unflappable optimist and never cease to be
impressed and inspired by those around me and the universe in
general.
I'll try anything twice.
I mean what I say, and say what I mean.
I find humor in many places, especially myself. Like if I've fallen
down in a funny kind of way. But I still get tickled when someone
ELSE falls down in a funny kind of way. Falling gags get me every
time. Spit-takes also.
What I’m doing with my life
I've got a good job but not a career. Got out of a domestic life
that ate up most of my 20s and now I'm looking to live life like I
mean it.
I am extremely interested in urban planning and will soon be taking
courses at Ohio State in that field. I'm really looking forward to
it, but before I do, I want to travel, maybe get a little crazy,
learn the banjo, come into my own.
I’m really good at
Non-attachment. In the Buddhist sense of the word. I also have a
natural curiosity about everything that I just can't turn off. I
can also find my way around a telescope no prob. In the dark,
natch. I studied physics and astronomy back when I thought that's
what I wanted to do with my life.
Human-canine interaction. Again, previous experience. I get dogs.
Especially bully breeds.
Driving a stick. Learned from my first car, an '85 Volkswagon with
a really touchy transmission.
Starting new "hobbies" only to abandon them months later. Sorry
Knitting! It's not you, it's me, Found Art! Collage, it's hard to
say this, but...
And I'm good at my job. The one thing that is consistent through my
whole life is that I am conscientious in what ever I may be doing.
The first things people usually notice about me
I've been told by many that I have a very dry sense of humor at
first blush. (Frankly, lots of people think they have "dry" sense
of humor. So I'm not sure this actually means anything anymore.)
Then, as time goes on, I guess my humor gets more "wet"?
And I apparently sound taller over the phone.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: I've read non-fiction my whole life. I enjoy an occasional
sci-fi (addicted to Red Dwarf since childhood, the books and TV
series), I can dig a collection of short stories, book of poems. I
love Billy Collins' poetry. I also can really sink my teeth into a
hearty logic problem.
Movies: I like stuff from the minds of: Ridley Scott, Tim Burton,
Cohen Bros, Terry Gilliam, Hayao Miyazaki. Some other auteurs like
Jim Jarmusch, Woody Allen, Christopher Guest, etc.
Music: Firstly, I'm a huge
Rammstein fan-girl. Liebe Ist Für Alle
Da, Bitches! So, there's that. Generally, I enjoy
house/electronica/dance and industrial. I also have a strong
appreciation for American roots music and just love bluegrass,
which is why I'm trying to learn the banjo. It ain't easy,
folks.
Food: Love it. One of my favorite TV shows is Bizarre Foods. I even
met the host and had him sign my travel bag. Gastronomy is a
passion of mine. I'm thrilled with company the likes of Skyline
Chili as well as the Octopus salad I had the other day.
The six things I could never do without
Good food. Decent coffee. Four seasons. Daily shower. Darkness.
Integrity.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What I'm going to eat next.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I go by Dan Savage's motto when it comes to sex: be GGG. And I am.
