My self-summary
I am VERY sarcastic and sometimes that gets misinterpreted. Hence, I sometimes find myself overusing emoticons in an effort to electronically relay my sarcasm.
I was born and raised in the NY tri-state area.
I have a large extended family and am very close to them.
I love to travel and like to plan a big trip each year.
I've been working in the non-profit field for the last five years and feel like it is a much better fit than the corporate world I was in before grad school.
I love bookstores and reading. Emphasis on actual books. As of now, I can't see myself ever switching to an e-reader.
I love to watch and play sports, especially basketball, soccer, and tennis.
I workout regularly (kickboxing, yoga, hiking, etc.).
I don't really enjoy just running alone, but every now and then I will just run. This is in case I ever have to run for my life. I want to be prepared.
I like living in a place that has four seasons, even if this means I have to live through July and August.
On that note, I hate heat and humidity.
I enjoy photography on a very amateur basis.
I don't believe in artificial sweeteners or reduced fat peanut butter or cream cheese.
I watch horror movies through my fingers, which I have over my face. This is not confined to my apartment. It also happens in movie theaters.
What I’m doing with my life
Playing Words with Friends with far too many people
Campaigning for the four day work week and European vacation time
Perfecting a work/life balance - specifically, how I can travel more and work less
Trying to re-learn French
Remaining in denial about this whole "retirement at 85" scenario
I’m really good at
walking fast, sports, organizing, planning, crowd-weaving, keeping in touch, being a good friend, not wearing heels, baking, recycling, and balancing my DVR schedule...
The first things people usually notice about me
My hair and my height (I really am 5'9...seriously, I am...I will actually appear 5'9 in person...without heels)

I point out the height thing because you would be amazed at how many times I have heard: "Wow, you really are tall." "You aren't wearing heels?" or "How tall did you say you were? Because you seem taller than me and I'm (insert height)."
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I am a pretty voracious reader and love watching movies, but generally I am interested in books and movies that revolve around history.

I lean towards R&B and hip hop and the occasional Whitney Houston. Ok, more than occasional. I also love some Motown from the 60s. I’m a pick and choose the song rather than the artist kind of person. Thank you iTunes!

I think the DVR is one of the best modern inventions, yet also one of the more dangerous. And by dangerous, I mean that I end up watching more shows than I would have ever watched in my previous non-DVR life. It saves you time, but yet also makes you spend hours watching TV shows that would never have made it onto your VCR. With that said, I will give you some of my all-time favorites past and present: Felicity, Alias, Lost, The Wire, Rome, The Amazing Race, Game of Thrones, The Tudors, Downton Abbey, Boardwalk Empire, Homeland, Copper...

I like to eat healthy 99.9% of the time, but enjoy a variety of foods and trying new things and have no problem splurging from time to time. And, I love chocolate. And if this category also includes drinks, I love wine and a good mimosa.
The six things I could never do without
Peanut butter (I've tried, it is not possible)
Traveling
Books
My DVR
Chocolate (I haven't tried, because I see no reason to)
Autumn
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My next trip!
Why people litter.
How much money subway peddlers actually make.
Why some guys choose a main profile pic (or any for that matter!) where you can't actually see their face - it is not like when you meet someone at a bar they have a mask on.
Movies to add to my Netflix queue.
Why I am always doing laundry.
Why this site is called OKCupid, but yet you can note that you are looking just for activity partners, long-distance pen-pals and/or new friends.
On a typical Friday night I am
asleep? :) On a serious note, it is usually happy hour or bust on Fridays. Rarely am I out late, and I think I prefer it that way.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I eat peanut butter...a lot (and I just had to google whether alot was actually a real word...it is not, by the way)
I'm huge in Japan (and I'm not just referring to my height)
In high school I had Patrick Ewing basketball shoes, which I loved
If it is hot and humid and I am commuting, I will push anyone (including the elderly and children) out of the way to get onto an air-conditioned subway. I'm KIDDING. No, really, I am.
