My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I grew up in Maine and went to college at a small liberal arts college in Pennsylvania, where I majored in English and studied philosophy and history. I worked at an art gallery throughout college and at times worked a second (and even a third) job. Once I graduated I joined Teach For America (which is how I ended up, rather randomly, in Texas). I taught in the Rio Grande Valley for two years and then moved to Houston in June of 2011.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Learning - I love to read nonfiction, watch documentaries, travel to all kinds of places near and far, and befriend people from all walks of life. I enjoy trying new things, particularly active things like surfing and paddle boarding. Recently I started taking dance classes each week and that's been really fun and rewarding. Some ither things I would like to learn is sign language and how to sew.

Working - Teaching 8th grade U.S. History at a public charter school to students who come from a low socio-economic background. I firmly believe that no one's zip code should determine their access to a high quality education. If you are curious about what it's really like to be a teacher, check out

Growing - Figuratively that is. I like to challenege myself in small ways like trying exotic food and bigger ways like moving thousands of miles away from home to a place where I don't know anyone. In my career I am always pushing myself to keep growing as well.

Traveling - Almost every year I go on a trip abroad. My brother and sister in law live in London so I've been there a few times. I've also been to Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Scotland, France, Spain, the Czech Republic, and more...not sure where I'll be heading this summer but I plan to go to Japan in the summer of 2017!
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Organization, watching Law & Order SVU, being on time, listening, deciding which movie to go see, card games, gift giving, wasting time on Pinterest, remembering who was in which movie, napping, catchphrase...and I think I am really good at my job, but there's always room for improvement : )
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I've been told it's my smile and my eyes. When I don't straighten my hair (it's naturally curly), then sometimes it's my hair that people notice first.
