My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Garden state native, currently live in Brooklyn. Kind of sciencey-minded nerd-in-chic-clothing type who appreciates dry rieslings and dry humor. I spent a couple of years living in California and really appreciate the laid-back attitude and fondness for the outdoors there - it's a mindset that has helped to offset the crazystressed attitude that is prevalent in NYC. I'm lucky to have crossed off a few major milestones (running a marathon, buying a coop) in the past couple of years and am hoping to get more into the arts (performing and visual) in 2015.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Working in education during the week (not a teacher anymore but do behind-the-scenes work to help teachers and kids), enjoying the city and trying to take advantage of all of the great opportunities that living here offers us. Running and doing other active stuff in my spare time, perusing DIY home improvement projects, figuring out how to use my bio background and love of rakija (look it up) to one day open a distillery.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Making people laugh, trivia (especially science or pop culture topics), karaoke, cooking and baking, remembering/planning celebrations for birthdays and other events, being directionally unchallenged (I'm a good map reader and almost never am disoriented or lost*)
*excluding many futile searches for freeway entrances in LA - but I think that's inevitable in that city when you go sans GPS system
The first things people usually notice about me

People often remark on my hair - apparently it's considered pretty. It's really long right now, so if you're into Rapunzel looks, I'm your girl.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Love in the Time of Cholera, The Brothers Karamazov, Middlesex
Movies: Cinema Paradiso, The Graduate, The Lives of Others, Dazed and Confused, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Big Lebowski, Wet Hot American Summer
Shows: Mad Men, Downton Abbey, the Sopranos, NOVA
Music and Food: love almost all of both categories with a few exceptions (e.g. Michael Bolton, escargots). Enjoying the Cut Copy, De La Soul, and Otis Redding Pandora stations as of late. If you know and like cevapcici or pljeskavica, we should talk.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
The people (and dog) I love, exercise, quality sarcasm, caffeine, the outdoors, summer
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
what to do in South Africa (since I'm headed on vacation there in February)
if the Big Lebowski is really as popular as OKCupid indicates (I like it too - but am kind of amazed to see it pops up here - like the Citizen Kane for 30-somethings, I guess?)
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
in the winter, probably relaxing at home or trying to finalize weekend plans... I'm a bit of a homebody in the winter. Much more likely to be out and about in the warmer months.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I've had some pretty offbeat Halloween costumes over the years, the weirdest of which was going as a Pan Am Boeing 747 in kindergarten. It had cardboard wings and soda bottle jet engines stapled to the arms of my turtleneck . Trick-or-treating was really uncomfortable that year.
