My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Originally from New Jersey, I've now crossed a couple of rivers and reside in Brooklyn. Like many folks here, I like good food and libations, voted for Obama, and appreciate being close to Prospect Park. I remain ambivalent about certain Brooklyn-y things like kale and unkempt beards, however. Growing up, I was the hyper kid who couldn't sit still on class and much to my teachers' relief, finally found an outlet for my energy through sports. I was an athlete in college and still do lots of active sport-y things to counteract the sedentariousness (not sure if that's a legit word) of my desk job - skiing, swimming, hiking, running, yoga, etc. I am half Croatian and get to Europe frequently to enjoy the food, outdoors, and hang out with my awesome-yet-crazy extended family. I'd spend my entire summer on the Adriatic if it were possible.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Working in education during the week (not a teacher anymore but do behind-the-scenes work to help teachers), enjoying the city and trying to take advantage of all of the great opportunities that living here offers us. Recovering from running the NYC Marathon (e.g. not having weekends revolve around 20-mile training runs), perusing DIY home improvement projects, seeking out interesting cocktails and reflecting on my dream of one day opening a distillery.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Making people laugh, trivia (especially science or pop culture topics), karaoke, cooking and baking, remembering/planning celebrations for birthdays and other events, reading maps and not getting lost.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
People often remark on my hair - apparently it's considered pretty. (Bonus is that I get to be a hair model and score free haircuts).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Love in the Time of Cholera, The Brothers Karamazov, Middlesex
Movies: Cinema Paradiso, The Graduate, The Lives of Others, Dazed and Confused, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Big Lebowski, Wet Hot American Summer
Shows: Mad Men, Downton Abbey, the Sopranos, NOVA
Music and Food: love almost all of both categories with a few exceptions (e.g. Michael Bolton, escargots). Enjoying the Cut Copy, De La Soul, and Otis Redding Pandora stations as of late. If you know and like cevapcici or pljeskavica, we should talk.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
The people (and dog) I love, exercise, quality sarcasm, caffeine, the outdoors, summer
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
my next adventure
vacation destinations
Potential redecorating options for my apartment (just became a homeowner and am so excited to live in a place where I can actually renovate!)
biology
whether anyone non-ironically selects the "and it matters a lot" for their astrological sign on their OKCupid profile
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Now that marathon training is over for the time being, NOT resting up, carbo-loading, and going to bed at 9PM.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I've had some pretty offbeat Halloween costumes over the years, the weirdest of which was going as a Pan Am Boeing 747 in kindergarten. It had cardboard wings and soda bottle jet engines stapled to the arms of my turtleneck . Trick-or-treating was really uncomfortable that year.
