I am brilliant, compassionate, and witty.
My Self-Summary
The compliment I've received that I'm most proud of is that I'm
easy to be around---people feel confident that I believe the best
of them.
I herd cats (
teach
high school freshmen). Specifically, English 9. I like to think
this is an indication that I'm a patient and good humored person
who wants to improve the world around them. What it probably means
is that I'm crazy enough to not mind repeating obvious things
928347 times.
When not helping 15 year olds figure out what foreshadowing is, I
enjoy hitting up
historical events,
renting movies,
crafting, and
checking out happenings as diverse as
goth clubs,
women's roller derby, and
amusement
parks.
As for what I'm looking for: I seem to only know it after I've had
conversation with the person, so by all means, message me :-)
What I’m doing with my life
"Improving the world through education" doesn't sound too
pretentious, right? Right?
For now, it's high schoolers. Eventually I plan to get an advanced
degree and teach at the college level.
Everything else I'm pretty much making up as I go.
I’m really good at
--making stuff. I own a sewing machine, 8 different sizes of
crochet hooks, a glue gun, assorted fancy papers, fabric dye
markers, paints, and sculpy clay. As well as a lot of other stuff
that's settled to the bottom of the craft box . . .
--Inventing silly words, like "naughtosity"
--Naughtosity
--generating practical solutions. I can refrain if you don't want
advice, but know it's making me itch to do so ;-)
The first things people usually notice about me
--on sight, my hair. It's about waist length when down, massively
curly (thank you nature) and very red (thank you sally beauty
supply).
--after talking to me, probably that it's *very* easy to get me to
laugh.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: Much love to the
Harry Potter series (yeah I know,
all aboard the dork train!), the
Georgia Nicholson series by
Louise Rennison,
The Eye of the Dragon by
Steven King (not well known, outside his usual genre . . . and just
awesome.),
The Handmaid's Tale by
Margaret Atwood,
The secret life of bees
by Sue Monk Kidd
Movies: Haha, if you want someone with sophisticated taste in
movies . . . leave now. Loved the 1st and 3rd
Pirates of the
Carribean movies, the 3rd and 5th Harry Potter movies,
Red Doors,
But
I'm a Cheerleader!,
Ratatouille,
Shrek,
Bramstoker's Dracula,
Never Been
Kissed. And though they're not movies, I'm obsessed with
Scrubs and falling
fast for
Heroes
Food: I'm
vegetarian . . . so veggie burgers,
cheese, anything chocolate, corn on the cob, and dried fruit.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
--How I'm going to make my life work when there's more than just me
to take care of one day.
--How to actually be effective in changing the things in this world
I don't like.
--The impact of my actions on the people and the world around
me.
--The people I know. I think of each person I know almost once a
day.
On a typical Friday night I am
Napping, ordering in, crafting and watching movies in my
underoos.
Saturday night is a whole 'nother story . . . :-)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I'm a total wimp about imaginary stuff, even though I handle actual
crisis really well. Student tries to come at me? No problem, cool
as can be. Haunted forest? Hold my hand, please. No, hold both of
them.
You should message me if
You think smart is hot.
