I am thoughtful, hungry, and alive.

My Self-Summary

I am a lover of short stories, long movies, little epiphanies, poppies, peonies, impromptu dance parties, Vermont, real food, lithe wines, Scandinavian design, poop jokes, pumping iron, epic city walks, aimless travel, dirty rock and roll, birds flying overhead, crappy old tattoos, list-making, old things, Sundays, sundaes, fonts, multi-generational gatherings, long pauses, and all the other things that make life worth living.

What I’m doing with my life

studying, halfheartedly looking for a job, wandering the city, meeting up with friends of yesteryear.

I’m really good at

Noticing details, appreciating things, laughing, spelling, letting go, livening up the party, reading for long stretches, admitting I'm wrong, cutting rugs to pieces, singing loudly, loving the people I love.

The first things people usually notice about me

My confidence, though all this self-summary challenges it a bit. Never my freckles, for some reason.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I love fiction and used to write it but these days I pretty much only read stuff for school. The Sunday Times has been a guilty pleasure since September.

I like movies that look beautiful and feature human beings in situations that seem plausible, particularly Terrence Malick and Bergman and Wong Kar-Wai movies. And White Christmas.

Old arty punk, pretty noise, singers who sound like bells brushed with steel wool.

Beets, capers, corn, anchovies, uni, pig, parsnips, salt, avocados, eggs, fennel, herbaceous and floral flavors.

The six things I could never do without

hope, a great meal, wilderness, things to read, time alone, human connection

I spend a lot of time thinking about

the same existential stuff that preoccupies most people.

On a typical Friday night I am

Ideally I'm gathering for dinner with a few close friends. After dinner we ride our bikes to a field at the water's edge. A big square of parquet flooring had been laid over the grass, and lanterns hang in the branches overhead. Soon everyone I love is there, and a sprinkling of dashing strangers in interesting getups, and we all do the watusi to the 60's soul that isn't bothering any neighbors. We sip cocktails and laugh at each other's moves. The crowd disperses and we stragglers gather at the fire pit on the beach, where a few people play instruments and we all sing along and tell jokes. Then someone strips down and dives into the water and we all follow suit, and look at the stars!

Dinner and a movie would be nice, too.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

My spirit animal is a champagne cocktail.

You should message me if

you're a creative, intelligent adult and you're excited by what you're doing with your life. And you'd like to meet for drinks and dancing or a long walk.

I'm no shrinking violet; I'm also not as unconventional as my profile may read. Truly, I am up for anything at all, but when left to my own devices I'll usually just read and eat some nice food and have a couple of glasses of wine. That makes me pretty happy, but I'd love to do some other stuff, too. If you have a good idea for something to do, then you should message me.
