My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a curious smartass and a shameless geek.

I'm probably not as weird as I like to think I am. Some will disagree. I think it's because I'm mild-mannered and careful with people until I think they can handle me, then I'm sort of... haphazard. Ideally that's endearing, if you are similarly crazy/direct/playful. Due warning and all ^^

I'm an optimistic cynic. I rarely feel quite right being either without a strain of the other.

It seems my brand of romanticism is partner in crime, as in someone with similar smiles and quirks :)

I'm fond of directness from people who are considerate. I have less patience for (and limited ability at) platitude-based smalltalk and other pretense. I do not like to inflict my critical side on people who I don't think would like it, so am quick to shut up. I can talk plenty conversational nonsense, though.

I occasionally feel a little out of place out of habit, and sometimes utterly forget to do so. I have occasionally made awesome friends like that - recognition rules that way. Lack of difficult is awesome.

While easily overstated, I do feel the need to point out the potentially abrasive stuff. I figure that if you can relate to angles like "I can probably be abrasive sometimes even though I tend to work to keep everyone close to me happy." that's a lot more useful than profile polishing.

I'm fond of hugs.

It's all pretty fickle, but it makes sense to me.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Have done job, freelance work, and both at once. Am considering moving to the other hemisphere, and/or a research job assuming I can find one within my real interests.
Occasionally dreaming a bit about other things I might be able to live on.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I rarely ask. Probably my minimum velocity.
A few people have asked whether I'm a dancer. This pleases me even though I'm not nearly as flexible or elegant as I'd like to be.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
books/movies/shows: I like interesting storytelling, but am a lot more satisfied when it has some reality, point, exploration, or some wildly personal or challenging things - I prefer it even in the schlocky, escapist, good-bad, and eye-candy stuff. ...but I can be very picky about half-hearted attempts at these.

My cheerup movies used to be Tank Girl and Fifth Element, and more recently Hedwig. I have different kinds of love for the Aliens series, Ghibli stuff, Real Genius, Princess Bride, Clue, Bound, Rocky Horror, Empire Records, and another handful or two. If you have a non-trivial theory why I have a soft spot for movies like Ballistic and Resident Evil, I like you.

Don't watch TV, do get series addictions, often on the sci fi or gritty side of things - think Torchwood, B5, the later Stargates, Doctor Who, Fringe, Dollhouse, Warehouse 13, and more which I'll remember or admit to later.
I like various anime and a few jdramas, for the style and the silliness. Nodame is awesome, watch it.

I most read when I commute, as I rarely sit still when I'm not working, and am rarely in bed when not exhausted.
I tend not to stick to authors, except for periodic patterns in Gaiman, Pratchett, and lately Peter F. Hamilton again.
I'm currently working on things like Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Anais Nin. And the recent Yotsuba :) is relatively accurate, though my recent navigations don't show up much. My longest-term squee is probably for Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Garbage, Lamb, K's Choice, and Björk (mostly her nineties stuff). I've quite a few more recent loves I'm sure will make that list soon enough.
Disturbing soft spots include bouncy eighties pop and italo disco. I like Aqua beyond its use as torture material. I recently got more interested in some experimental and odd music.
I rather like Tim Minchin's stuff.

I like my food spicy. Thai, Indian, Indonesian, that sort.
My own cooking is improving slowly, a little more so after I broke enough blenders to decide not to buy more. I am omnivorous, but cook almost exclusively vegetarian.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Rainstorms. The occasional person to connect with without the usual protocol. My sense of suspended disbelief about reality and my sense of humour about it. The occasional escapist shiny entertainment. Sleep should probably be on this list, and coffee probably shouldn't be. Working on it.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Comfort and discomfort, from one self and from others, how important it is in interactions. Being positive without the cult of positivity. Memory. Rationalization. Shirked issues. Creativity. Society and how it might work with fewer misunderstandings. Intelligence, real and artificial. Deviance and dark sides.
Whether the matching is off because of low-hanging-fruit questions.
On here, whether listing myself as casual makes sense or not. I'm not sure it should. Or shouldn't.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm possibly a bit kinky.

Buuut generally, I answer people, not sites. Ask.
