My self-summary
I'm here to explore, learn, and enjoy myself. I want someone to join me in doing awesome things, defying the norm and keeping things fresh, and to challenge me. Time flies and there's so much to do, but let's not be in a rush, no need to stress. Be charged about life, but don't sweat the small stuff.
What I’m doing with my life
Programming! Building sweet, original educational software. Since I graduated from college I've spent most of the time working on a tool for teaching Chinese and Japanese characters, but now I'm building something new that will take the world by STORM. There are so many crazy amazing things going on in web dev right now, and I love experiencing each new wave of fresh technology.

I travel regularly; I spent most of 2011 driving around the contiguous US (all along the periphery), living/couchsurfing in places like Savannah, Austin and Portland to see what's what. When I was done, I settled in the bay area where the tech is humming and the Oberlin alums are everywhere.

Have you ever done couchsurfing? It's the best way to travel. Forget hotels and hostels, how about free room *and* hanging out with locals who are super hospitable (they after all open their home to travelers) and are eager to show you the best parts of their home? When traveling, the people I meet through couchsurfing tend to be the best and most memorable part of the trip.

When I'm not working or traveling I'm usually:

- Drawing
- Cooking
- Strength training (while it's still relatively easy to do)
- Reading
- Studying
- Gaming (all kinds)

I’m really good at
Programming!

For a musician nerd turned computer nerd, I can socialize just fine, and even enjoy it! Still very much an introvert though.

Keeping my number of possessions down. I'm not super minimalist (and not at all ascetic), but I definitely lean that way. Stuff gets in the way too much and is too easy to acquire and hard to get rid of, so I'm always on the lookout for stuff I don't need or particularly want. I took a lot of damage watching Queen of Versailles.

Playing the ocarina with my hands. And only my hands.

Keeping my phone out of my hands while I'm with people. All bets are off at any other time, though.
The first things people usually notice about me
Deep brown eyes.

It can be hard sometimes to get my attention, or at least, to get me to stop focusing on something else. Useful when programming. Not useful when someone's talking to me and I don't realize it.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Just check out my GoodReads profile. http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1450253-scott-erickson

Movies: Mindgame, Coraline, Bladerunner, Bringing out the Dead, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Good, The Bad and the Weird (Korean version of The Good, The Bad and the Ugly), Lincoln.

Music: They Might Be Giants, Cake, Ratatat, the Decemberists, RJD2, Deadmau5, Deerhoof, Air, TM Juke, Herbaliser, DJ Shadow, Queen, Pink Floyd, Royksopp, Blockhead, Andrew Bird, Wax Tailor, Animal Collective, Ben Folds, Cake, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, The Cure, The Faint, Four Tet, Radiohead, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Steeleye Span, The Unicorns, Vangelis, Caravan Palace.

Foods: chocolate, chocolate covered anything, bread, Indian food, Swedish food (I grew up on the stuff), pretty much anything from America's Test Kitchen

Games (why isn't one of the things to list...?): Valve games (especially Portal), Monkey Island, Smash Bros, Blizzard games, Oblivion, Risk, Betrayal, Cards Against Humanity (with custom made cards), Game of Thrones: the Card Game. Ever played that last one? It's like Magic, but more complicated. People seem to either really like it or just say it's not worth the effort.
The six things I could never do without
Laptop. How else would I make money?
A good chair to sit in when using said laptop
Phone. Partially for communication, partially for reading.
Earplugs/eye cover (especially when traveling).
Fully stocked and equipped kitchen (that counts as one, right?).
Passport.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The past. The future. My work. How I'm going to build that one thing. What I should cook and when I should get the food. What I should do today. How can weather always be this nice (having spent most of my life in New England and the Midwest). That last thing I saw on the internet.
On a typical Friday night I am
If I'm feeling sociable, I'll go hang out with my friends playing a board game or watching a movie. Sometimes I prefer some alone time though and then I'll read, play a computer game, or fritter away time on the net.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I once walked into a pole on Downing Street in London, and was given ice from the prime minister's house. I have not represented our country well...

I couldn't play through Amnesia.

I think Fahrenheit is a better system for measuring weather. Celsius just doesn't cut it for me. Maybe the world could compromise and go with Kelvin?
