My self-summary
So it goes. I am an insatiably curious Mancunian who loves visual art (with a few exceptions), theatre and pop music. Obsessions include tea paraphernalia, Ibiza and quirky destinations. Politics, particularly American, do interest me but so does dancing, beer and generally doing stuff. There's a line in a PSB song, which goes, 'I don't like much, but what I do like I love passionately'. This is pretty much me. To a T. You might have to meet me at the side entrance, but hopefully you'll find it's worth the effort. I also like cooking, and the washing up too.
What I’m doing with my life
I have a knack of being good at stuff which doesn't interest me so much. For now, work is heading the communications department (consisting of just me!) for a health charity. It's like a microcosmic North Korea. The trade off is I get to edit (and mainly contribute) to the in-house magazine. For a 'core professional' journalist and editor that's pretty satisfactory. What I really enjoy is the teaching and tour-guiding I do on a voluntary basis for international students to my fair city.
I’m really good at
Writing and thinking. Which is pretty much how I describe the job I do. I have the odd distinction of having a PhD in Drama/Theatre Studies (even though I never wanted to act or direct) but work in a profession I did in my spare time. I am also bloody good at enthusiasm. If I like something, you'll know about it.
The first things people usually notice about me
Depends who you ask. Some people say I am intimidating, some say I am intense. Different sides of the same coin? I genuinely get excited by knowledge, new ideas, challenging alternative perspectives. If I discover something which fires me up, I won't keep it to myself. I'm not inflexible either. I like to think I am culturally open minded, and, if anyone starts saying 'but that's just shit', get ready for a big debate! Perhaps...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Mmm. This is a difficult one, as I like to be anything other than fixed in time. But here are some of my favourites:

Book - The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
Play - Six Degrees of Separation by John Guare, Blue/Orange by Joe Penhall
Music - Favourite album of 2012 is The National Health by Maximo Park, Sasha/Digweed kinda stuff in the background
Gig - Horrors, Beach House
Food - Particularly fond of Mexican, Middle Eastern
Film - Not a 2012 film, but the one I enjoyed seeing most this year was The Skin I Live In.
Art - Favourite living artists are Gerhard Richter, Paula Rego
The six things I could never do without
I guess this means other than air, health, money, food and accommodation? Well, here's six of the rest, in no particularly order...

1) Friends
2) Art
3) Passport
4) Laptop
5) Mobile phone
6) Sex
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Concepts (no really). And being with someone.
On a typical Friday night I am
With friends, swimming, winding down ready for the weekend.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Ask me. (I think I have given everything away in the questions answered elsewhere on this site.)
