The following is a story of one thing I can definitely do
without.
The story is called How I said farewell to my appendix
Yeah, it is true I had to have my appendix removed.
So I went to work feeling a little blah. I
thought I had some indigestion and asked my manager if
I could take lunch early to run to the drug store and
pick up some Rolaids. I went to Walgreen's and bought
some Rolaids and took an extra strength dose and
proceeded to feel worse. Finally I went to my manager
and told her I needed to go home. She said that was
fine and wanted to let me know how much sick time I
had available. The pain was so much I just started
crying and she asked if I could drive. I told her I
didn't think so. She offered to take me home but I
told her I would have someone pick me up. I went down
to my car thinking maybe I just needed some fresh air
and that I was just being a baby about something I ate
that wasn't sitting right. In my car the pain was
getting worse. Luckily, I wasn't driving. I called my
mom in tears and asked her to pick me up. By the time
she got there I knew something was really wrong so I
had her take me to the closest hospital emergency room, which is
right down the street from my office.
There was a huge line in the ER. The nurse could see
my condition was bad and I was put in front of the
other people in the ER waiting room. The ER doctor
came to my room quickly and did some tests and decided
I needed a CAT scan of my abdomen. The CAT scan showed
that I had to have an emergency appendectomy. I was
sent to surgery that afternoon.
I had to spend the night at the hospital and was
released Saturday morning. The appendicitis was bad
but the staff at the hospital were all really nice and
attentive. There was an overnight nurse with me who
was the most helpful woman. She would check in to make
sure the pain medication was still working. She helped
me get in and out of bed every time I had to use the
restroom. After surgery every little movement hurt.
Most of my weekend was spent in bed taking pain
medication every 4 hours. By Sunday night I was
feeling like I could probably go to work. The doctor
said if I felt like going to work I could. So I went
to work on Monday and have been getting better
everyday. When I took off the steri strip surgical
tape that covered the incision I saw the
incision was maybe 1.5 inches long and it was stitched
on the inside so there is nothing going through the
outside of my skin to make a nasty scar. The stitches
dissolved with time.
So that is the story of my appendicitis.
I can assure you that you never want to have a
appendicitis. It caused the worst physical pain I have ever
had
in my entire life.
