I am opinionated, nerdy, and laid back.

My Self-Summary

OkCupid take 2 - I moved to San Francisco and got a haircut! So I'm taking another stab at things on here.

So far I'm finding online dating frustrating - I know there are cool girls on this site, because I know cool girls who've used it, but profiles have to be about the worst possible way to figure out if you're going to like someone. It's great that we both like to cook and dance, and the attempt at matching people via intrusive questions is a noble endeavor, but the fact is none of this is any indication that we'll actually have some good chemistry if we meet for coffee, or if it'll be awkward and uncomfortable and we'll both hope the other doesn't end up calling again. But I'm undeterred! I'm marching forward, hoping for the best. So in that spirit, here's some random information about me which does little to summarize who I am!

I like to ride my bike but not to go camping. I don't like driving, but when I do, I put the windows down. I don't say lol but I do use emoticons. I'm a liberal atheist and I argue a lot. I'm smart, but I try really hard not to be arrogant. I love to cook, but am having difficulty making time to do so. I don't care about professional sports, but I like to go to the ballet and the opera. I think wearing nothing but socks is pretty funny. I like electronic music and I like to dance awkwardly to it. I'm in dire need of a sofa, and some other living-room furniture. I feel guilty when I don't floss.

What I’m doing with my life

I just moved to San Francisco! I'm pretty excited about that. My job is still in San Jose, so I take the train most days. I'm now in the process of sorting out my life again, mostly unpacking and figuring out where's the best grocery store nearby. I'm also trying to meet some more single friends, as most everyone I know from various stages of school is married and starting to pump out babies. And while I'm very happy for all of them, it's impacting our social interactions!

I’m really good at

My research, making dumb jokes, teasing my friends, mixing drinks, rambling, leaving crossword puzzles half-done, and filling out online profiles - ha!

The first things people usually notice about me

I laugh easily and distinctively - my friends say they always know when I'm nearby because they can hear me laughing.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I have an affinity for bizarre movies, electronic music, scifi books, and any cuisine I come across. Here are some random examples:

Books: The Martian Chronicles, Cat's Cradle, Neuromancer, Snow Crash, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Dune.

Movies: The Fountain, any Stanley Kubrick, Alien, Brazil, Coffee and Cigarettes, Hero, In the Mood For Love, The Hours, Old Boy.

Music: MSTRKRFT, Hot Chip, The Black Ghosts, Matthew Dear, Royksopp, The Knife, CSS, Autechre, Amon Tobin, Crystal Castles, Does It Offend You Yeah?, Lilly Allen.

Food: ramen, soon dubu, sushi, tapas, dim sum, pho.

TV: I hate hate hate commercials, but I do watch some stuff on the internets. Right now I'm horribly addicted to LOST...

The six things I could never do without

An internet connection. A good skillet. My glasses. A song that makes me want to dance. A close friend. Um, does it have to be six? I used to have more stuff to put on here, but in the last year I've had to go without a lot of things I previously thought I couldn't, and I managed.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Your mom.

Actually, right now I'm thinking about how much I _don't_ like applesauce. Bleh.

On a typical Friday night I am

Doesn't everyone just put the same thing here? I go out, or I stay in. Bars, movies, clubs, friends' places, my place. I like to go dance at places like Mighty and Mezzanine, drinks at Bourbon and Branch or Jardiniere. Sometimes, if I don't have plans, I stay at home and look at OkCupid - woo!

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I think happiness is inversely correlated with wearing pants. I drew a graph to illustrate this concept.

You should message me if

You should message me if you like to draw illustrative graphs, because you're probably awesome. Even if you don't, you still might be awesome, so message me anyway.
