colorful, clever, and elusive
My self-summary Propose an edit
I'm looking for someone on the same wavelength, or at least picking
up the same radio stations. A kindred spirit to relax and have a
good time with. Someone self-aware who thinks that communication is
a good idea.
I have less obscure photos, but you have to ask. Austin is a big
town...but a small town and I don't want to jeopardize the cool
business-only persona I've managed to convince my co-workers is the
real me.
Once upon a time I was married to my career, but I finally came to
my senses and now lead a pretty balanced life. I've been a costume
designer, self-employed craft artist, and grad student but am now
taking a break with a low stress Clark Kent job as a tech writer
and wondering what the next wave of inspiration will be and where
it will take me. I'm playing around with a blog, but it sure is
nice to have the creative freedom not to have to monetize it.
(yet.)
My friends are an assortment of well-adjusted eccentrics. I'm a bit
of a social chameleon - I can swim in the mainstream but find it a
bit monotonous. I've found that the fringe along the periphery is
where the far more interesting stuff happens.
I avoid television whenever possible. I just can't understand
people who leave it on all the time. Commercials make me cringe so
my tv is but a monitor for the DVD player. But now that I can watch
full episodes of the Daily Show on their website, I don't feel
deprived not having cable.
Good health is important to me, in body, mind and spirit. Exercise
keeps me grounded and happy. I make it to yoga once a week, Barton
Springs about three times a week, and I dance when so inspired.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
Trying to remember to breathe and come back to the present moment.
Trying to take myself less seriously.
Scheming ways to get this new day job down to flex time. Wondering
if anyone wants to read my blog. And if I really need to learn HTML
or not...
I'm really good at Propose an edit
reading. thrifting. dancing. finding things. connecting people with
other people.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
Men tell me I'm tall. Women tell me I'm thin. That's genetic stuff,
though. I feel more complemented when people comment on some
interesting clothing or jewelry I've found for next to nothing.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Food? yes. I try to lean towards the healthy, but so much of the
happiness of food is the people it's shared with, so I try to be
flexible about all that. I just finished a cleansing detox diet and
I feel fantastic so I'm trying to avoid sugar, simple carbs and
generally toxic greasy stuff. And I'm addicted to the Daily Juice.
Goji Quik plus raw cacao. YUM!
Movies? I really wish the Arbor were closer to me, but I do live
walking distance from Alamo South. I've mostly been digging up
things at Vulcan as of late. Rotten Tomatoes is a godsend at the
video store. a few titles:
Red Road,
The Hole Story,
Juduo,
Raise the Red Lantern,
Tideland,
La Vie en Rose,
Celebration,
Primer,
Les Idiots,
City of God,
Gosford Park,
Barry Lyndon,
Zoolander,
Music? Pandora says, "Based on what you’ve told us so far, we’re
playing this track because it features block piano chords, r’n’b
influences, a mid-tempo dance style, electric bass playing and a
groove oriented approach."
I read the NY Times online incessantly, along with all sorts of
other news surfing. As for books, I'm usually reading something
about how people work (just finished Goleman's 'Social
Intelligence'), something about socio/political/economic trends
('Nation of Rebels: How Counterculture Became Consumer Culture'),
some philosophy-lite ('Buddhism, Plain and Simple') and something
related to my research (Lipovetsky's 'Empire of Fashion'). I don't
have too much time for fiction, except for books on tape for long
road trips.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I collect vintage cashmere sweaters. In the winter time, when I'm

You think I'd be an interesting person to talk to. You are mostly
