I am personable, out-going, and ready for adventure.

My Self-Summary

I just became an empty nester, didn't think it would ever get here. Now I'm ready to have some fun of my own! I would like to find a compatible male who has spirit, enthusiasm, and a zest for what life still has to offer. I'm a communicator and thrive on feedback, also like companionship, but appreciate my aloneness too. I am a what you see is what you get kind of person, and have a lot to offer the right guy! Are you up for the challenge?

What I’m doing with my life

I'm towards the end of the working full time and saving $$$ for retirement phase of life, been with the same employer for 31 years. My adult kids are out on their own, even tho I see them or feed them at least once a week. I'm thankful to have such a close and honest relationship with them, and for them to like each other.
I have a great place to live, a fun car to drive, and many friends I enjoy doing things with.....Now I'm looking to invest some time and energy into meeting and getting to know a nice guy to spend some quality time with. I long to sit and visit with him, watching a fire and the stars while camping, before turning in for the night, or having someone to share that first cup of coffee in the morning with.
I enjoy my life, but think there can be more. I know I have a lot to offer the right guy. Is that you?

I’m really good at

my chosen profession, hospital nursing. I've worked in Pediatrics for the last 21 years and plan to stay until I retire. Kids are a challenge in that they come in all sizes and developmental stages, which each requires a different approach to care for them. I have to establish trust quickly with not only the child, but the parents and extended family, in order to provide acute medical care successfully.

The first things people usually notice about me

It's not my shy and timid demeanor, that's for sure! Might be my quiet self confidence and inviting nature. Kids and small animals usually come up to me, knowing I care about them. Then before long we're playing and laughing, (not the small animals so much).

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Lately I've been reading more non-fiction, but often have at least one fiction I'm reading also. A favorite book that comes to mind is, "God on a Harley". It was what I needed to read at the time I read it.
I tend to go for Independent movies, rather than block busters, movies like "Little Miss Sunshine", "Into the Wild", and "Slumdog Millionaire". We have a really great owner-run theatre in town, called Salem Cinema.
Summer is my favorite time for live outdoor concerts, at venues such as McMenamin's Edgefield or even the State Fair amphitheater. And I prefer to listen to music I can sing along with, like rock'n'roll and blues.
Food, another great indulgence! I'm a fair cook, lean towards chicken, hamburger dishes, and bar-be-que (in the summer). I enjoy salads, tossed green or one of my many special recipes. If I'm going out, breakfast is always good, but also like NW cuisine and micro-brews, or Mexican food and a blended Margarita!

The six things I could never do without

1. Music, currently listening to Jimmy Buffett Meet Me In Margaritaville. Also listened to Bonnie Raitt and Van Morrison today.
2. Some type of artistic outlet, it can be framing artwork, making art (drawing, watercolor, pastels), or potting and arranging plants/flowers on my deck.
3. Daily walk with my dog.
4. Contact with my kids, family and friends.
5. Some kind of playful/physical interaction with my partner every day.
6. My Tempurpedic mattress.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Lately I've been trying to change my thinking. I've wasted too much time reflecting on the past, and worrying about the future, Now I try to think about only what it is I'm currently involved in doing, to try to be fully engaged in each moment exactly as it is right now. As Deepak Chopra says, "The past is history, the future is a mystery, and this moment is a gift. That's why it's called the present" (from The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success). This moment is "it" and right now is my chance to live it.

On a typical Friday night I am

either working (every other) or starting a 3 day weekend (also every other) in which you may find me with a friend having a beer and sandwich, outside on the deck overlooking the creek, at the Ram Pub. Or going to a movie at Salem Cinema or Northern Lights Theatre. There's always a book I'd like to read, laundry to do, or a cupboard to sort thru and clean out. I haven't tried camping by myself yet, but that's a possibility this summer. I might plan a bar-be-que to feed my kids and their friends or take my dog for a walk at the dog park. Wouldn't you like to join me?

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I will share when we get to know each other better, and you want to know more about me.

You should message me if

you are emotionally and physically available, and receptive to building a honest and trusting relationship, with the long term in mind (or you just want to get a beer together). Thanks for your consideration, I wish you luck in your search.
