My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Intelligent sensitive educated emotionally aware. Interested in ideas, the arts, and other people, the world, politics, spirituality, meditation, helping others. Retired after financial career. More on the quieter, gentler, non-sport side of being masculine. Nice dry sense of humour and fun.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Exploring new areas of activity such as painting, reading great novels, philosophy, bushwalking, spiritual ideas about the self and the world - with a more eastern focus.
Still involved with family with 2 daughters, 2 grand-daughters. Would like to do more for others, perhaps overseas especially india - have done lots of community work such as telephone crisis counselling.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Lateral and creative thinking. Imagination- like to paint, love the subtleties of language, write some poetry. Listening and understanding other people- empathy and compassion are really important.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Probably a bit shy, average height, weight and looks but friendly, perhaps a bit intense?- need time to get to know the more open simple expressive side.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Like well written books e.g. anything by Phillip Roth, Mario Vargas Lhosa, Arundhati Roy. Only arthouse films as a rule- this year Performance, Amour, Farewell My Queen- too many to remember really. Classical and much popular music. Don't like musicals but like opera, ballet. Any good food is fine.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My children/grandchildren, people who are passionate about things, ideas about the world and life, paintings/films/photography, music that is emotionally moving, getting out in the bush (and lots of coffee!!- not a morning person).
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Everthing really: the world, politics, the planet and aspects of western culture that seem, to me at least, harmful. People suffering in other parts of the world. Tend to imagine a lot of visual imagery, think about new ideas I come across, what lies beneath the surface of things. Hope that doesn't sound too serious or weird!!
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Seeing a film with a friend, dinner with family or at home reading or watching something good on TV if there is anything e.g. Borgen, Call the Midwife have been the best this year. Like documentaries especially.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Intensity of feelings about lots of things.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You have similar passions, like conversations, and want a deeper friendship that involves more authentic personal intimacy- not the superficiality we usually indulge in. Good to connect on multiple levels.
