My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hi there. Thanks for stopping by. Really, I'm flattered. I'm going to use this space to give you a snapshot of myself, rather than explain who I'm looking for like some kinda help wanted ad.

Occupation: I teach 3rd grade, public school. It's sometimes grueling, usually challenging, and always meaningful. I often work late, yet still wonder if I'll ever catch up. Former newsy (reporter, writer, editor) and I like using words in a crafty way. It irks me when people replace words with letters or numbers. I think spelling matters.

Education: I see learning as a lifelong adventure and college is not a means to an end. Having said that, I've acquired way too many credit hours.

Random stuff: I've been known to go on madcap adventures like train hopping, hitchhiking, and toiling on a fishing boat in the Bering Sea. I'm a Navy veteran and lived in Scotland for a year. I like sports, but mainly follow baseball. I only go to a couple of Sox games per year, so don't be scared. I have good retention for trivial knowledge. Love club dancing, but not into the scene. I'm agnostic, and think science is endlessly fascinating, but am open to conversations about spirituality and the after-life. I will make you laugh. I am a fair-skinned, blue-eyed Mexican. I have a soft heart, but little patience for litterbugs, drivers who stop beyond the white lines, and apathy in general. I'm good with kids, partly because I'm a kid at heart. I like superhero movies, Star Wars, and Halloween is my favorite holiday. It used to be Christmas, but that has become anti-climactic since my family became so spread apart. I have a cat with eyes like cracked jade. I love biking and I take mass transit on a regular basis. I have an affinity for music and furniture from the '60s and '70s. I like taking long walks. I've recently gotten into ice skating. I have decided to give another shot at learning guitar. I have a gym membership. Left-winger and left-handed. I practice random acts of kindness.

giving the benefit of the doubt, picking up other people's litter, writing my thoughts, being late, being honest, playing devil's advocate, walking, dancing, smiling, well-crafted sentences, sad goodbyes, highlighting most of the page, connecting, rescuing discarded furniture, horror comics, scrabble, hugging, Donkey Kong, pool, being patient, typing, biking, attempting to learn an instrument, caring for felines, trusting, sleeping in, staying up late, online chess, underachieving, overachieving, screwing up tense in Spanish, movie quotes, daydreaming, trivia, juggling, witty repartee, intellectual curiosity...dang, I have to do everything around here.
