I am active, thoughtful, and curious.

My Self-Summary

I am a person who is active and engaged in the world around me. I am very curious about a lot of things, which while pulling me in a lot of different directions allows for some great discoveries. I love to laugh and spend time with friends.

I'm politically engaged and also do this for work. It can be very frustrating but things are pretty fucked up and I have to try and do something. It also can be very rewarding, which in addition to the necessity of the work keeps me doing it.

I like to grow things, eat them and engage more closely with food and agriculture. I'm a beekeeper. I love books and don't have a television. I also try to find time for a variety of artistic pursuits including photography, music and film. I get outdoors as much as possible, especially to the river. All of these things are reflective of my thoughtful, active mind and my insatiable curiosity about all that is around me.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Right now (as usual) I'm reading more than one thing at once - Waiting for the Barbarians by J.M. Coetzee and a biography of Tom McCall the Oregon Governor who passed much of our environmental laws. I also just read the Call of Cthulu by H.P. Lovecraft and I love the Dream of the Ridiculous Man by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.

Network is a great film. I'm a big fan of documentaries, particularly political ones.

As for music Radiohead is always a good choice and recently I've been trying to see as much local music as possible and have been enjoying the Nurses, Justin Power, Y La Bamba, the Slaves and the Portland Cello Project.

I'm a fan of many cuisines in particular Mediterranean/Middle Eastern, Italian and Mexican. I enjoy growing and cooking my own food as much as possible. Local and fresh are good.
