I am laid back, geeky cute, and growing.

My Self-Summary

I'm really just a sweet n geeky guy looking for a friend & relationship & partner-in-cuddles. Someone who likes to stay in and hang out and that also likes to go out into nature and/or the city. Someone that has an adventure list and wants some company.

I'm a mix of introvert and extrovert or activism and apathy. I can be sociable and silly but I'm not gregarious or a party animal. I'm usually a geek, a closet hippie, and rarely anything close to a metrosexual. I'll wear just about anything out of the house for the sake of response (pink feather beanie--this does not mean I'm anywhere near femme) or due to indifference (yet another pair of corduroys?), or due to politics (image expectations are frequently classist and heterosexist) but I can clean up nicely when in the mood. However, my socks usually clash--which only matters when I wear shorts, and doesn't really matter that much then.

In terms of personality, I'm equally entertained chatting about life or policy, sitting in the park, reading a book, hiking, playing games (video or board), or hanging out at a bar. i enjoy art and watching people--not to gossip or judge, but out of an appreciation of diversity/beauty/whatever. I'm not attached to a scene or class...I'm perfectly at home listening to japanese bluegrass (Toshio Hirano?), a dyke band(BoySkout?), or hanging out at a hiphop bar(though it's been a while)...

Keywords/things that describe me and/or my close friends: Liberal, ethical, queer, androgynous, feminist, energetic, outdoorsy, honest, pragmatic, geeky, low-drama

What I’m doing with my life

I have a ridiculous job working for the City that requires a mix of skills in policy, relationships, and IT. I'm very distracted by learning/growing in my new work environment, but I definitely want to maintain a balanced life of work, play, and adventure. I'm also pondering what should be addressed in my backlog of adventures, accessories, and fun.

I'm looking for someone that might also want to hike, play board games, climb, cook, whatever. And I need a new play partner...that would be someone to see plays with, fyi. Though I'll occasionally settle for crappy tv series.

I’m really good at

games (not the emotional type), learning technical and academic stuff, listening, giving advice, staring off into space, explaining politics, laughing at crazywonderful friends, making up new words, contemplating sunshine.

The first things people usually notice about me

When I'm not at work I occasionally get comments on my septum piercing; it's kind of odd that people are still surprised by that.

At work, I suppose that if I'm busy they notice that my unkempt beard and my psuedo-fag earrings don't really fit with my "professional" attire. But whatever, it's classist/heterosexist bs anyway.

--------------

The other thing they notice is that I generally have no idea what show/pop-culture-thingy it is they're talking about (unless it's a show on DVD or the interwebz); I do not own a TV.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

a) kissing god goodbye [june jordan], the spirit level [seamus heaney], wraethu[storm constantine],a door into ocean[joan slonczewski], understanding power[noam chomksy], strip city b) memento, spirited away, amelie, triplets of belleville, donnie darko, shortbus c) NPR...folksy girl music...ani, cat power, mia doi todd, Pet, Big Sir,punk, industrial, butt rock...eh and yes i like bright eyes. d) anything non-mexican [three years in the mission is quite enough...except for soyrizo burritos...mmm]

The six things I could never do without

my kitty, friends, a backup plan, a playful relationship, the ability to create meaning out of my random existence, optimism (tempered by snark)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

food, work, geeky stuff, how slack i am about this site, what to do when not busy, my ironic sexy lumberjack Halloween costume and how i really should just shave and buy a beard instead.

On a typical Friday night I am

Avoiding overcrowded bars and occasionally having dinner and wine and board games with friends until 4 am. Or just making dinner and watching movies with the housemates.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

despite my misleading (?) profile, i'm actually quite shy at first. I'm definitely not mr natural social butterfly--growing up gay in the South (as in North Carolina, not so-cal) fosters a certain level of independence. and snark.

and...

I'm actually/really/authentically(!) attracted to all sexes and I'm generally in monogamous long term relationships. Though I might be open to a poly primary partner, polyamory generally seems like too much more work for a shy boy and too much drama and (the real kicker) too much scheduling.

and....

i've been to a gay rodeo...and no, a gay rodeo is not a euphemism for something else.

and...

i do be a preacher's kid

and...

i'm actually a member of a wine club and i feel I should be embarrassed about it since I live in the hipstencia corridor. Of course, I'm also lacking in the macintosh (check! iphone acquired), single speed (half-check...no more car), and tattoos areas.

You should message me if

you're down for chat, tea, [board/card/video] games, plays, shows, climbing, or learning something new together. And considering my work and that I'm naturally a bit slow to contact people, please feel free to send me a short message if you want to hang out.

you either create things, help others in some way, appreciate the outdoors, or are geeky-wonderful

Filters:
you are not a frequent drug user or alcoholic; I regularly drink wine and could care less about casual marijuana use, but I do not have space in my personal life for substance abuse issues.

you don't have any hangups in the affection department (I like to cuddle...)
