My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I moved to New York about two years ago after many years in San Francisco, and am loving life here in this amazing city. I've had a not-so-secret crush on NYC for most of my life, and suffice it to say my feelings have only grown stronger since I officially relocated here in 2012. I've been fortunate to make some wonderful new friends during that time who I now consider to be my extended East Coast family. And now that I'm feeling more settled, I would love to find that one special guy to build a relationship with and share the journey.

I'm originally from the Midwest (specifically, Minneapolis), and friends describe me as a thoughtful, sincere, bright, and fun-loving goofball who laughs a lot and is passionate about life. I love my family and friends dearly, so I try to spend as much time with them as possible. Music, movies, theatre, photography, design, technology, computer graphics, and politics are amongst the great passions in my life. There has always been something special about music in particular that connects to the very core of my being; I absolutely love it.

I enjoy going to concerts, plays, musicals, the symphony, and museums whenever possible, and of course, there's no better place for cultural pursuits than New York. I have a deep appreciation for innovative design, architecture, and urban planning. I experience frequent bouts of wanderlust, and am always trying to do more traveling. Outside of NYC, Sydney, Berlin, Prague, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, Paris, Toronto, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, and Minneapolis are amongst my favorite cities so far. Travel + Photography = Heaven. I'm a sucker for Disney World. I love exploring cities, good food, ice skating in Bryant Park, the magic of New York during the holidays, wandering along the High Line, long walks or hikes, running in Central Park, regular exercise and keeping fit, making a fool of myself while dancing, making a fool of myself while not dancing, parsing the difference between "nerd," "geek," and "dork," playing with other people's doggies (I can't wait to have one of my own again), shuffling through my absurdly large music library, tinkering with my MacBook, science, technology (especially related to Apple, movies, and music), and thoughtful political discussions. Also, run-on sentences.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I studied economics and communications at Stanford, and took a somewhat circuitous path into the field of computer graphics. I am a visual effects artist by profession, and some of my recent endeavors include rounding up all the birds in "Noah," making Hulk smash(!) in "The Avengers," and an animated feature about a lizard with an identity crisis, called "Rango." It's definitely fulfilling work, though it can be pretty demanding at times, so I take care to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
...mixing creative and technical pursuits, and feel lucky to have a job that requires me to do just that. I really enjoy going on photo expeditions (especially when traveling). I'm something of an audio geek, so I love making music and tinkering with my makeshift recording studio. I enjoy writing, and should probably try to do more of it outside of updating my OkCupid profile. I would also like to get a short film project going at some point... The trick, as always, is making the time to do it!
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm a nice guy, and tend to wear my heart on my sleeve. Us Midwesterners can't help it, we're just wired that way.

The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. Family & Friends
2. Music & Art
3. Travel
4. Good food
5. A career I'm passionate about
6. My Apple gadgets
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game. we should go about getting Ted Cruz, Michelle Bachman, Rick Perry, Sarah Palin, and their ilk relegated to the same, now idiot-fortified village in Texas that is home to a certain former president in exile.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
...grabbing dinner with friends, seeing a movie or a show, hitting the gym, heading out of town for the weekend, relaxing on the couch with takeout and Netflix, or perhaps some combination thereof. I try to mix things up as much as possible and like to avoid falling into a routine.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

For me, it's the same old story: Boy grows up listening to his mom's dusty Annette Funicello records from 1960. Boy's favorite song by Annette, who was one of Disney's original Mouseketeers, is "Tall Paul." Yes. Boy figures he's just a "late-bloomer" when it comes to girls, not realizing he never stood a chance (see "Tall Paul"). Boy remains clueless throughout his college years, convincing himself that it's not that he has a massive crush on Matt Damon, it's just that he'd really, really like to be his friend. Boy moves to San Francisco, is inevitably recruited by "the gays," and finally comes out in his mid-20's. Boy has several positive (plus a few requisite negative) dating and relationship experiences along the way, but is still looking for that special someone to share his life with. Boy also still thinks Annette is awesome.

I'd love to meet a cute, talented self-identified nerd who has no idea how adorable he is. I like to surround myself with people who are gregarious, able to express themselves, sensitive, confident but self-effacing, drug-free but high on life, not afraid of being a dork, loyal, and intelligent. I have enormous respect for people who value integrity and monogamy, eschew flakiness, have set goals and are driven to achieve them, are kind-hearted and considerate, have strong, well-formulated opinions but don't take themselves or life too seriously, appreciate sarcasm but avoid cynicism, take care of themselves mentally and physically, and love to be goofy and have fun. I'm always up for making new friends, and firmly believe one can never have too many. Of course, as a relationship-oriented hopeless (hapless?) romantic, I would love to be swept off my feet and stumble into my own real-life Nora Ephron movie. No better place for that than NYC, right? Only in my version, Ryan Gosling's the one I would find waiting for me atop the Empire State Building (and Tina Fey is a sassy elevator operator with a heart of gold).
