My self-summary
UPDATE: I just recently moved to NYC from San Francisco, and am so excited to be here! I've been in love with this city for years, and have decided it's finally about time to see if I can make this marriage work. So far, so good! I'd love to meet some new friends to help me explore this amazing city and, if I should be so fortunate, hopefully find a guy to build a relationship with. More soon!

----

Friends describe me as a thoughtful, sincere, bright, and fun-loving goofball who laughs a lot (or at least, they do when I remember to pay them their monthly stipends). I love my family and friends dearly, so I try to spend as much time with them as possible. Music (listening, playing, singing), movies, theatre, photography, design, computer graphics, and animation are amongst the great passions in my life. There has always been something about music in particular that connects to the very core of my being; I absolutely love it.

I enjoy going to concerts, plays, musicals, the symphony, and museums whenever possible. I have a deep appreciation for innovative design, architecture, and urban planning. I experience frequent bouts of wanderlust, and am always trying to do more traveling. New York City, Boston, Sydney, Berlin, Prague, Amsterdam, Tokyo, London, Paris, Toronto, Chicago, and Minneapolis are amongst my favorite cities so far. Travel + Photography = Heaven. I'm a sucker for Disney World. I love exploring cities, good food, ice skating in Bryant Park at Christmas time, long walks or hikes, keeping fit, making a fool of myself while dancing, making a fool of myself while not dancing, parsing the difference between "nerd," "geek," and "dork," playing with other people's doggies (I'd love to have one of my own again), shuffling through my iTunes library, tinkering with my MacBook, science, technology (especially related to Apple, movies, and music), and thoughtful political discussions.
What I’m doing with my life
I graduated from Stanford with a degree in economics and communication, and took a somewhat circuitous path into the field of computer graphics. I am a visual effects artist by profession, and some of my recent endeavors include making Hulk smash(!) in The Avengers and an animated feature about a lizard with an identity crisis, called Rango. It's definitely fulfilling work, though it can be pretty demanding at times, so I take care to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
I’m really good at
...being creative. I really enjoy going on photo expeditions (especially when traveling). I'm something of an audio geek, so I love making music and tinkering with my makeshift home recording studio. I would also like to get a short film project going at some point... The trick, of course, is finding the time!
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm a nice guy. Us Midwesterners just can't help it, we're wired for it...

BOOKS - Not surprisingly, I loved Bossypants by Tina Fey, particularly the chapter "Dear Internet," in which she responds to the comments of a few malicious morons with hilarious take-downs. Another favorite is Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them by Al Franken. (Best chapter: "Ann Coulter -- Nutcase." Next best chapter heading: "You Know Who I Don't Like? Ann Coulter.") I'm a voracious reader, but tend to read more periodicals than books...

The six things I could never do without
1. Family & Friends
2. Music & Art
3. Travel
4. My Apple gadgets
5. Good food
6. A career I'm passionate about
I spend a lot of time thinking about
...how we should go about getting Michelle Bachman, Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Sarah Palin, and their ilk relegated to the same, now idiot-fortified village in Texas that is now home to a certain former president in exile.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
For me, it's the same old story: Boy grows up listening to his mom's dusty Annette Funicello "Tall Paul" 45's from 1960 (she is one of Disney's original Mouseketeers!). Boy thinks he's just a "late-bloomer" when it comes to girls, not realizing all along that he's gayer than Xanadu (see "Tall Paul"). Boy remains closeted throughout his college years, convincing himself that it's not that he has a massive crush on Matt Damon, it's just that he'd really, really like to be his friend. Boy moves to San Francisco, is inevitably recruited by "the gays," and finally comes out in his mid-20's. Boy has several positive (plus a few requisite negative) dating and relationship experiences, but is still looking for that special someone to share his life with. And still thinks Annette is awesome, by the way (check her out on iTunes!).
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like guys
  • Ages 27–45
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating
You should message me if
I'd love to meet a cute, talented self-identified nerd who has no idea how adorable he is. I like to surround myself with people who are gregarious, able to express themselves, sensitive, confident but self-effacing, drug-free but high on life, not afraid of being a dork, loyal, and intelligent. I have enormous respect for people who value integrity and monogamy, eschew flakiness, have set goals and are driven to achieve them, are kind-hearted and considerate, have strong, well-formulated opinions but don't take themselves or life too seriously, appreciate sarcasm but avoid cynicism, and love to be goofy and have fun. I'm always up for making new friends, and firmly believe one can never have too many. Of course, as an LTR-oriented hopeless (hapless?) romantic, I would love to be swept off my feet and stumble into my own real-life Nora Ephron movie. Only in my version, Ryan Gosling's the one I would find waiting for me atop the Empire State Building (and perhaps Tina Fey is a sassy elevator operator with a heart of gold).
