I am sweet, funny, and nerdy.
My Self-Summary
What on earth to say? Well, here are some tidbits about me:
I love to entertain. Specifically, I love dinner parties, movie
nights, cocktails, etc. I take a great deal of pride in my home,
and love to share my hospitality with others. It's my southern side
coming out. I love to cook. And I'm pretty damn good at it, thank
you very much.
I'm a big 'ol geek. I manage to rein it in most of the time, but I
love programming, sci-fi, and bizarre legal arcana. It's
endearing.
I'm a romantic. Just this morning (as I type this) I was reading a
book, and it managed to make me cry a little bit. The beautiful
moments in literature, television, and film hit a sensitive spot
inside me, and I'm not embarrassed to relish in that and express
it. I read a lot of fantasy literature for a couple of reasons: 1)
see "geek" paragraph above, but most importantly 2) fantasy reminds
me about the nobility of humanity - we are MORE than we seem and
can DO more than we can imagine.
I'm mature, honest, and direct. But also a little shy, especially
if I like you/think you're cute. I'm very social, especially with
new people, but I like to get to know people before I start telling
them I'm all sexed up inside about them.
I am motivated and enthusiastic about life. I'm in law school, want
to work for children and LGBT rights, and enjoy my life. I want to
meet other people who have things they want to do in life - whether
it involves your work, or you want to write a book, or are a
musician, are passionate about sports... Just have a passion and DO
something about it. I promise you, I'll be fascinated by whatever
it is.
I enjoy people. Events are fun, but people are what get me out of
bed in the morning. The way that manifests for me is that I enjoy
chiller events where I can talk to people - lounges/wine bars,
dinner (in or out), going to a park, coffee, or "activity" events.
I went to an LGBT line-dance/two-stepping event last Sunday - lots
of fun! Gay bars are okay, and I go occassionally, but they're not
my normal scene. Dancing is the same with me. I really want a
board-game partner. Haven't played them in AGES.
I'm a television whore. Seriously. I have 3 binders of DVDs,
holding 300+ DVDs each. 1 is half-full of movies. The other two are
entirely filled with my TV collection.
I'm my own public library. I have a kindle, and need at least 5
book cases to hold my book collection. I'm also vain enough to hide
the trashy stuff in my room and keep the "smart" book out for
public display. ;-)
I'm intensely loyal and caring for my family and friends (and even
more so to my future boyfriend, when he comes along).
If I'm messaging you, it probably means I think you're
interesting.
I want to learn to horseback ride like nobody's business.
I have a blog but update it so rarely that it's useless.
I am on Facebook constantly.
I don't really get Twitter, but I can do status updates on Facebook
like 10 times a day.
If you've made it this far, congrats! My name's Ri, I'm a law
student and part time web developer. I'd love to get to know you,
so just send me an email!
What I’m doing with my life
Right now I'm currently going to
law school and working part time as a
web
developer. I'll be working with the SF Unified School District
this summer as a legal intern. Once I finish my law degree, I want
to find a way to work with both the LGBT community and with kids.
Maybe doing appellate advocacy for
gay rights or working as a guardian
ad litem or maybe working in family law. If those options fall
through, the fallback (or perhaps the hidden dream I'm too scared
to try) is to fly to Venice and open a small English bakery on a
side street near the Grand Canal.
I’m really good at
I love to
cook and
throw
dinner
parties.
I'm really good a
programming computers.
I also got my undergrad degree in
theatre, so I enjoy going to shows a lot
and occasionally doing some
lighting design.
I'm also an AMAZING at
singing - at least my shower stall
thinks so.
The first things people usually notice about me
My smile. It's big, lights up my whole face, and is a little
goofy.
I just got a great compliment from a stranger on my eyes. Made my
day. :-D
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I'm a big fantasy novel fan. My all-time favorite series is "The
Fionavar Tapestry" by Guy Gavriel Kay. Other favorite authors
include Jim Butcher, David Eddings, Kim Harrison, L.E. Modesitt
(this list could never end).
As for other books - I really enioyed "All the Names" by Jose
Saramago. I'm a massive fan of Pablo Neruda. I also just read "The
Curious Incident of the Dog In Night-Time," which blew me away it
was so good. The Hours & Mrs Dalloway.
I spend quite a bit of time studying esoteric legal things that
don't really impact my law school studies. Military and terrorism
law. Gender & Sexuality aspects to law. Yeah. I'm cool like
that.
Movies - The Hours, I Heart Huckabees, Eternal Sunshine of the
Spotless Mind, among many others.
TV - Brothers & Sisters, The West Wing, Pushing Daisies,
Battlestar Galactica, Gilmore Girls, Arrested Development, among
MANY others. I'm kind of a TV whore.
Food - Indian, Italian, Greek
Music - Ani DiFranco, Rachael Yamagata, ADELE, Tristan Prettyman,
Anoushka Shankar, Old Blind Dogs, Dixie Chicks, Ingrid Michaelson,
Yael Naim, Stars, Madeleine Peyroux, Diana Krall, The Chieftains,
Corinne Bailey Rae, Feist, Loreena McKennit, Sara Bareilles... (My
musical tastes range from acoustic pop/singer-songwriter to world
ethnic, like "Trad" Irish music, Indian sitar music and Kirtan
chant, and African Gospel music).
The six things I could never do without
1) The people in my life
2) My laptop (I actually did survive 3 weeks without it
recently)
3) My cellphone
4) A copy of the constitution (I have one on my iPod Touch. Because
that's just how I roll.)
5) My TV
6) Something to read
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My Friends & Family
The Supreme Court
Pushing Daisies
Politics
The book I'm currently reading
Cooking
On a typical Friday night I am
Either out to dinner/movie/drinks
OR
Spending a great night in with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I can get a little teary eyed when I'm reading about really
sentimentally beautiful moments in books or watching them in a
movie.
You should message me if
I love to hear from all types of people. I just ask that the people
in my life be motivated about something, passionate about life, and
genuinely good. You get MAJOR points for being a) a major Aaron
Sorkin fan, b) furious that Pushing Daisies got canceled, c) think
I'm super interesting, or d) actually having the balls to message
me.
"You can talk a great philosophy
But if you can't be kind to people every day
It doesn't mean that much to me
It's the little things you do
The little things you say
It's the love you give along the way"
