My self-summary
I'm a research assistant for a professor interested in primate evolution; I plan to apply to grad school next year. I live with my boyfriend in a small apartment with fish and rats. I'm a huge geek.

I am cute, nerdy, and quirky
What I’m doing with my life
I graduated from college and now I'm a research assistant.
I’m really good at
Translating Latin, getting enthusiastic about Bio., bringing weird animals, plants and fungi into any place I'm living.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm short (5'2" on a good day) with short scruffy hair. I have a "cute" (I'm told) quasi-British accent (my mom's originally from the UK and worked for the BBC; I grew up in Cambridge MA but I guess I was a very stubborn, antisocial kid). I like parentheses. It takes about five minutes of conversation with me for me to a, say something witty, b, say something really stupid, c, say something really really nerdy, and d, reveal that I know way more than you ever wanted to about something extremely esoteric. Yes, I will do all of those things in 5 minutes.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
A. The Collected Poems of A.E. Housman; Gormenghast (Mervyn Peake); Middlemarch (George Eliot); Our Mutual Friend (Charles Dickens); the entire Discworld series (Terry Pratchett); anything by Neil Gaiman; Tales of a Shaman's Apprentice (Mark Plotkin); the Aeneid; The New Yorker (which is not a book, but I read it regularly; New Scientist magazine (see previous); lots of other stuff too.
B. Brideshead Revisited (the 11-hr Granada adaptation with Anthony Andrews and Jeremy Irons; I like the book too); really bad monster movies on SciFi (e.g., "Dinocroc"); I, Claudius (I liked the book too, but it lacked Derek Jacobi); Firefly; anything of Hitchcock's; anything of Bergman's; The History Boys; Corpse Bride; LOTR. Et cetera.
C. They Might Be Giants; The New Pornographers; folksy stuff from the 60s-70s; Weezer (oh so emo, I know); Ben Kweller; Belle & Sebastian; Bob Dylan; Da Vinci's Notebook/Paul & Storm; The Cautions; stuff from the 20s-40s (Comedian Harmonists, Cole Porter, and the like); some classical (especially Schubert) and ragtime (especially Scott Joplin).
D. Strawberries, chocolate, tomatoes, nectarines, grilled leeks, Italian, French, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, good vegetarian food (NOT tofurkeys & veggieburgers - vegetables, eggs, and tofu that's not masquerading as meat). I'm a strict vegetarian but I don't have a problem with carnivores/omnivores so long as they're vegetarian-tolerant and understanding.
