I am very empathic, energetic, and pleasant.
My Self-Summary
A very dear friend of mine (you know who you are ;)) has challenged
me once to describe myself as best I can in a single word. Now,
THAT was a tough one. You should try it, you might learn something
about yourselves in the process, as I have (thank you, good
friend!)
So the answer I came up with was - a Hobbit.
Yep.
Hobbit.
No, don't get me wrong, my feet aren't (that) hairy, I'm not (that)
tiny, and my cheeks don't get red like they do in David Wenzel's
illustrations.
However, my demeanor is usually very cheerful and friendly, I tend
to smile often, I enjoy a good adventure (especially when wrought
with great physical exertion) as well as the peace and quiet of
home, and definitely a good meal or two (or seven).
I can get very mellow and serene or extremely passionate and
enthusiastic, often surprising those who don't know me well enough
to know what to expect of me.
I often find myself marveling at the world around me, the myriad of
scents brought by a morning breeze (not the disgusting Krayot
air...), the way the clouds are reflected on moist leaves, the
people around me and the subtleties of any form of artwork.
The smallest of things can give you the greatest pleasures in life,
if you only stop to enjoy them.
As for my own life - The things I enjoy can somewhat describe me as
a person, especially the duality of my nature:
- Both energetic and serene, I enjoy
extreme sports,
recreational sports,
hiking and
practicing
martial arts as well as reading
books and watching
movies or just
listening to
music
at home.
I love (LOVE)
dancing, both wildly for rhythm as well
as slowly for grace. And in general, all practices involving the
form and motion of the body (be it martial arts, dancing, yoga etc)
are more than just fun to me. It's an experience that allows one
for self expression and a special kind of freedom, as well as a
form of meditating and looking inwards.
- I am driven by my emotions, but make decisions rationally and
logically. Small wonder I enjoy both art (especially
visual arts) and
science, and to a great extent (though I admit, I'm a little more
artistically-inclined)
There are too many things I find interesting for my own good. I've
been called a jack of all trades and master of none, yet I aspire
to master much. Sometimes it seems too much, so the only thing I
seem to have mastered so far is procrastination. And I'm damn good
at it. (have you any idea how long it took me to actually feel like
writing something in this self-summary?)
All in all, I think the bottom line is, as the saying goes:
"I'm unique, just like everyone else"
:)
What I’m doing with my life
Studying for my BSc in Computer Science at the Technion Institute,
and working there at R&D of CGI applications as a software
developer. I don't know if it counts as something I'm doing with my
"life", as I feel quite deprived of it in the process..
Practicing martial arts (
Gung Fu,
San-shou and maybe
MMA soon). By "Gung Fu" I specifically
practice the following styles: Northern styles - Mijong Lawn Horn,
White Crane; Southern styles - Hong Gar, Choy Lei Fut (my
favorite)
Drawing and
painting, both
traditionally and digitally, and dabbling in other forms of
CGI. But I should be
doing it more often. My studies get in the way as well as that
damned habit to procrastinate..
Messing around with my beloved
poi swings. Not training seriously, just a
hidden interest I like to explore from time to time.
I’m really good at
being empathic and supportive, criticizing myself, enjoying and
appreciating even the smallest things in life, truly putting my ego
aside (no small feat, took me years to achieve that), being silly
and childish, learning, procrastinating, and especially listening -
both to the spoken and the unspoken.
Some people think I should put singing and dancing on that list,
but I'm not so sure... Maybe you'd like to be the judge of that?
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books - fantasy and sci-fi mostly. For now it's the usual stuff:
From Tolkien to Pratchett, from Asimov to Orson Scott Card. It's
definitely time to expand to newer themes in these general genres,
"Neverwhere" and "A Song of Ice and Fire" being a good
beginning....
Oh, and anyone who remembers the brilliant reference to Elvis
Presley in The Hitchhiker's Guide say aye! :)
Films - anything by Tim Burton or by Michel Gondry,
Monty Python's Life of Brian and The Holy Grail (I can recite most
of the scenes by heart),
anything animated (especially by Aardman Animations, Pixar, Laika
Studios and anything from Disney's Renaissance period),
Sin City, The Rock, Little Miss Sunshine, Fight Club, Pan's
Labyrinth and so much more ....
Music - Alternative \ Industrial Rock, Folk, Ambient, Classic and
Chamber-Music, Hip Hop, Pop, some Jazz and some Electronic...
My typical playlist might include Hans Zimmer alongside Tool and A
Perfect Circle, with some Missy Elliot and Jeff Buckley thrown in,
mixed with Lorena Mckennitt and Tenacious D, and glazed with
Evyatar Banai and Yael Deckelbaum on top :)
But then again, it might be something completely different.
The only certain thing is that I'm always open to new things, so if
you wish to enlighten me - feel free to do so.
Food - I'm not a large person (quite the opposite), but I can eat
like a family of bears just after hibernation.
The six things I could never do without
My health,
my own corner of peace and quiet to share with a loved one,
a loved one to share my corner of peace and quiet with,
a place to practice my hobbies, preferably as spacious and as
private as possible,
winter (yeah, I'm a winter person. Doesn't mean ANYTHING about my
personality)
and of course - music. My life is meaningless without music.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
World domination. And how to successfully bake my Mom's special
cookies. Which will of course assist me in the process of world
domination, because no one can resist those cookies. No one.
So whenever you thought you've just heard a faint
"BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!" coming from somewhere - that was me baking.
Ware the Day of the Cookie, mortal.
On a typical Friday night I am
there's nothing typical about it. Each Friday is different, and
that goes for any other day of the week as well.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I sing when I'm alone quite often.
I can't say no to Ferrero Rocher. (seriously, if anyone would try
to assassinate me, all they'd have to do is give me a poisoned
Ferrero Rocher)
I has a rly big kollekshun of Lolcatz pics... And I keeps dem in
mah bukkit!!
