My self-summary
In many ways I initially appear to be mix of contradictions, but I prefer to think of myself as a balance of opposing and complementing elements. I went to architecture school, and I work in software engineering. I’m an introvert, and my job requires me to be extroverted. I value order, and I volunteer with the Fremont Solstice Parade. I climb mountains, but not for the sense of adventure. I’m constantly improving, learning, and refining myself, but I’m not driving towards any given image of perfection.

It’s been an interesting journey so far.
What I’m doing with my life
On a daily scale, I’m spending a lot of time climbing, working on photography projects, spending time with close friends and working.

On a larger scale, I’m exploring. I have tried to avoid putting myself on a set path with goals, and instead have focused on finding and blending complimentary and contrasting skills and experiences together. Like any good modernist I believe that ”less is more” and that “form follows function”. I try to have a smaller number of really good, close friends and fewer things.
I’m really good at
Design. I believe that most problems and issues are design problems which can be solved by carefully understanding the issues, actors, each actor’s specific and vague requirements (along with their unstated motivations) and then coming up with a creative, iterative solution.
The first things people usually notice about me
Initially, that I'm professional, smart, and love solving problems.

People frequently mistake me for staff. It's amusing at stores, it's flattering when I'm mistaken as a ranger or guide in the backcountry, it's a little bizarre when I'm traveling and locals ask me for directions or advice on local issues.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
In no particular order:

- This American Life
- The Dirtbag Diaries
- Planet Money
- Arrested Development
- The West Wing
- Mythbusters
- WALL-E
- March of the Penguins
- Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
- Jiro Dreams of Sushi (but I'm deathly allergic to seafood)
- Design of Everyday Things
- The Visual Display of Quantitative Information
- School of Seven Bells
- Airborne Toxic Event
- Death Cab for Cutie
- Chocolate
- Tacos
The six things I could never do without
1. Water
2. Food
3. Camera
4. High mountains to explore
5. Roasted and/or fermented things (e.g. chocolate, coffee, beer)
6. Close, trusted friends
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Ideally it’s the next project, adventure, or thing I want to learn or try.

The current candidate projects include: planning an expedition to Kilimanjaro, an ice cream recipe that reproduces the flavor characteristics of gin (without using gin of course), taking a class on tamale making, a few software projects.
On a typical Friday night I am
That really depends, I don’t often do the same thing every Friday. Often it’s something with a friend: making dinner, grabbing a pint, climbing at the gym.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
If it's a private thing I'm willing to admit on a website then, by definition, wouldn't it be a public thing that isn't well known I'm willing to write?
