I am arty, outdoorsy, and punny.
My Self-Summary
I'd prefer to be sitting in the sun near a stream in the
mountains writing or
reading a book somewhere with hemlock trees and maybe a dog. using
punctuation and capitalization in a somewhat erratic manner and
perhaps even making up words. If not, then looking forward to using
my passport or dancing to
bluegrass or
salsa. with friends. or maybe on my
bike. or cooking
something vegetarian. or maybe all of these things at once, except
that maybe that's a bad idea.. Optimistic, but sarcastic.
What I’m doing with my life
Teaching art to teenagers and being pretty happy about it.
I’m really good at
Teaching, cracking jokes that make people groan and planning stuff
like cabin trips, group hikes, trips to Mexico... Ideas- thinking
in 7 directions at once and circumlocutious storytelling. I'm
really bad at texting, though.
Editors
The first things people usually notice about me
My hair- it's big.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
One Hundred Years of Solitude, Coming through Slaughter, The Botany
of Desire, Choke - anything by Barbra Kingsolver, John Krakaur or
Toni Morrison. I just finished Three Cups of Tea and Eat,Pray,
Love.
At the moment I'm cooking with whatever secret ingredients the CSA
(community supported agriculture) supplies for the week- it's kind
of like being on Top Chef without any prestiege and more organic
and local- but my favorite foods to go out for are Afghani (I
missed Baltimore's Helmand when I lived in Portland and Seattle),
Thai and Indian.
Music- John Prine, Michael Franti, Be Good Tanyas, Mike Doughty,
Django Reinhardt, Vampire Weekend, Greg Brown.. and listening to
NPR.
All time favorite movies are Better off Dead and High Fidelity.
Anything with John Cusack, apparently. Or Nicholas Cage when he was
still funny and not trying to be some kind of action hero. And all
that Judd Apato stuff. I still want to see Food Inc- but the last
thing I saw was Harry Potter. Time Traveller's Wife was one of my
favorite books, so I'm a little afraid of the movie. I only watch
t.v. if it's on dvd - Stephen Colbert, The Wire, Buffy..
The six things I could never do without
coffee, color, a garden, novels, a pencil and good friends.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
this week? pedagogy and curriculum planning.
generally- where to go on the next adventure, what the people i
love need and how to me a more centered human. how thrilled i am to
have a president i'm not embarrassed by. whatever i'm reading and
where i'd like to go next. What it will take to make people a
little more environmentally conscious in everyday life.
On a typical Friday night I am
wondering if anyone wants to go dancing or if i should just read a
book.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
If i don't laugh so loud the whole room can hear, it wasn't that
funny. And that I have a guitar I can play about 4 chords on.
You should message me if
You like some to much of the above stuff, but don't chain smoke,
wear skinny black jeans, need to borrow money, vote republican or
live with your mom.
Or, more truthfully, if I seem like someone you'd already know.
