My Self-Summary

I'm social and active, with a variety of passions and goals. I love spending time with friends or family, but value time on my own, as well -- reading, running, and writing and playing music. To steal a line from Harvey Danger, "If you're bored, then you're boring." I joke around a lot. I'm inquisitive with people. I think it might be harder to write a perfect poem than a perfect novel. I've been a vegetarian for a few years. Some of my favorite activities are playing tennis, watching movies and traveling when I can.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm a former journalist now working for an East Coast distributor of environmentally friendly building materials for interiors. I made a pitstop at fine-art school, focusing on woodworking and furniture design, while switching careers. I try to run at least three times a week and do periodic 5k and 10k races. It's important to me to volunteer with charities and to support downtown revitalization.

I’m really good at

hopefully making people laugh. :) I can't claim to be a fantastic musician, but I do love playing guitar and singing, and I've performed a bunch -- in very small venues :) -- over the years.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Some favorite authors are Vonnegut, Styron, Shakespeare, Bukowski, Salinger, Camus and Hemingway.

I enjoy discussing film genres, great directors, etc. Some faves include Casablanca, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Princess Bride, Leaving Las Vegas, Magnolia (and other PT Anderson fare), Fight Club, the Godfather I & II, Office Space, Elling, City Lights, Zoolander, Dr. Strangelove and True Romance.

I'm mostly into indie rock and singer-songwriter stuff, although I appreciate jazz, classical, opera, bluegrass, a bit of hip-hop and some classic rock. Faves include Elliott Smith, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Ali Farka Toure, the Beatles, Pinback, Ella Fitzgerald, Pete Yorn, Baaba Maal, the Cure, Rufus Wainwright and Wilco.

Spice is nice. I love Indian, Thai and Mexican most of all.
