My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I relocated to Adams Morgan this February after a year in suburban Maryland. It feels a bit like reaching an oasis after traveling for a year across a cultural desert. I'm making a serious effort to spend at least a half hour every day with my cello. Between work and other commitments it doesn't always happen. I would love to find someone I connect with and get off this silly website permanently.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I do biostats for a biotech company in Gaithersburg. I take a cello lesson once a week in Bethesda. I just bought a cello so I'm committed now.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
getting in over my head. And climbing out again.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I really would like to say it's the blue eyes. But it's probably something else.

I find these lists tiresome to read but I get the point. I probably won't be compatible with someone who hasn't read a novel since high school. My favorite movies are the red violin, the english patient, platoon, the princess bride, and the life of Brian. My favorite books are the name of the rose, the secret history, Alice through the looking glass, the lord of the rings, the Amber chronicles, Dune, the omnivore's dilemma, le morte d'Arthur, and anything by Stieg Larsson or Jo Nesbo or Tana French. I liked the one about the werewolf with a taste for Oban. I'm working on the string diaries. And that silly thingy about witches in London. My favorite tv shows are firefly, battlestar galactica, farscape, breaking bad, lost, and orphan black. I binge watched orphan black and now I'm going through withdrawal. I loved the original house of cards with Ian Richardson but haven't seen the new one with Kevin Spacey. I read the I, Claudius books by Robert Graves and saw the BBC series with Derek Jacobi. I like Sibelius, Vivaldi, Mahler, Debussy, Brahms, Liszt, Shostakovich, and Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings. I like to go to concerts at the Strathmore in Bethesda. And at the Underground Cellar in Frederick. I like divey places with live local bands and good Scotch. As far as food is concerned I'm omnivorous. I'll eat anything that doesn't come from a chain restaurant. I have a spice tolerance that borders on abnormal. It's probably something to do with my upbringing. Or deficient taste buds.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
books and stories that take my breath away. A glass of wine at the end of the week and good food and the company of people who make my heart sing. A well-tuned cello. A disheveled pretty lady who will let me bring her eggs and toast and coffee.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Time management.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
usually at home reading or cooking something from my Jerusalem book. Occasionally I'm out climbing or at a pub drinking with a coworker. Or playing with my kindle or my cello.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I fully understand the arguments advocating vegetarianism. But foie gras is so delicious. I'm old and I've become comfortable with my hypocrisy.
