I am spontaneous, sarcastic, and [SOMETHING WITTY].
My Self-Summary
First I would like to make sure that it is understood that I AM
married. No, I am not looking to cheat on my wife, and yes she
knows that I am here. We have a VERY loving poly
relationship.
Now, having said that - My main purpose on this site is to find new
friends that I would not normally meet in current social circles.
Basically looking for some good people to hang out with - watching
movies, playing games (card/board), singing, dancing, being
spontaneous, and generally having fun.
A little about me: Most people would probably say that I am shy and
quiet...and I am - in the beginning at least. I am also fairly
silly, witty, sarcastic, playful, and just generally like to have
fun. Silly and sarcastic end up going hand in hand for me, which
makes for an interesting combination.
What I like to do: I enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, camping,
swimming (kind of like an otter that way), biking (both kinds - I
miss my Harley!), walking (especially with the dogs),
rollerblading, sitting on the beach, in the grass, rolling down
hills (or grassy knolls), etc - though sometimes it is nice to just
relax inside, cuddled up in front of a fire, a movie, or nothing at
all. I also like kissing. Did I mention cuddling?
I really like movies, working with my hands, warmth, hanging out,
etc
What I’m doing with my life
I am currently unemployed. This is a somewhat new feeling for me,
as I have been working with out break for the past 12-13 years. I
am currently looking for work in the tech field - business
intelligence/program management or web development. I am also
looking at self employment opportunities...
I am currently taking a break from teaching
swordplay - originally due to injury
to my right shoulder, but lately I find I have just not been as
interested. To occupy my time I have started learning how to be a
luthier (stringed
instruments maker), and focusing specifically on guitars. I am just
about to start working on my 4th guitar - and expect this one to be
much more playable :)
I theoretically consider myself somewhat of a writer. I have quite
a few stories (and three books - 2 non fiction and one sci-fi) in
various states of completion. However, I have not done anything on
any of these for almost a year now.
Oh, and I am raising two/three kids. One could argue that I am
"done" raising one of them, since he is 18 but I am of the opinion
that the job of being a parent is never done. I dont remember
anyone telling me this was a lifetime gig.
I also have a 10 year old daughter, and a 4 year old kind of
daughter (biological daughter of roomates, but we all co-parent the
children)
I’m really good at
Fencing (medieval renaissance swordplay), remembering a large
number of (mostly) "useless" facts - especially if from a movie. I
really like playing the
guitar.
I am fairly coordinated but find myself pretty self conscious when
doing new things where people are watching - like dancing. Overly
concerned about what other people think - something I am working
on. :)
I seem to be good with my hands. I found I do not like working with
metal much, so have been focusing on
woodworking - which is helpful with
the whole guitar thing...
In general I am good at figuring out how things work. I am also
really good at doing things without the proper tools or materials.
I can hack together pseudo solutions like no one's business.
The first things people usually notice about me
Good question. Tell me when we meet
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
"Favorites" is a concept that I am not quite keen on, personally.
(like "best friends" - what, I am supposed to choose only ONE best
friend!)
Here are some random things I like...
Movies:
Yellowbeard, Equilibrium, Zorro the Gay Blade, new Star Trek,
Taken, Gross Point Blank (love it!), Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory (with Gene Wilder), Breakfast Club, Legend, Willow,
Goonies, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, Fight Club,
Jackie Chan movies, 5th Element, Knights' Tale, Under the Tuscan
Sun, 10 Things I Hate About You, Fish Called Wanda, Hitchhikers
Guide to the Galaxy, Galaxy Quest, Nightmare Before Christmas, Real
Genius, Tank Girl, The NeverEnding Story, Modern Times, American
Beauty, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, De-Lovely,
Labyrinth, The Karate Kid, Shakespeare in Love, Inkheart,
Armageddon, Apollo 13, Batman Begins, Be Cool, Chicago, Chocolat,
Independence Day, Lilo & Stitch, Bolt, Lord of the Rings

The Professional, The Chronicles of Narnia, ad nauseum
Marx Brothers movies!! It has been awhile since I have watched one,
but I love them :)
Music - I grew up listening to punk, metal and industrial. I still
have somewhat of a soft spot for Accused, Rammstein, Megadeth and
Metallica, but mostly listen to punk/indie stuff cause it is easily
accessible on the radio in the car (as both vehicles only have tape
players right now) - though I do get a chance to plug Zune in at
times for other stuff.
Really I listen to all music except for rap and most "hip hop".
Anything with guitars is especially nice ;)
Book wise - I have not been reading much over the past few years.
However, I HAVE been listening to audio books. I think audio books
was a brilliant invention that is much more user friendly now with
digital version that can be played on phone/mp3 player, etc. I did
actually read the last Harry Potter book, because I was bored one
weekend. Though now that I said that it seems kind of sad that I
spent an entire weekend reading a book.
Course - the thing is I didn't take an entire weekend - I still got
out and did things during the day. :)
Listening to The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. GREAT book.
The six things I could never do without
Maybe the question should be the 6 things I would not want to live
without... :)
Kissing, friends (comma between kissing and friends not always
important), laughter, randomness and inspiration
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Politics, religion,
stories (that I REALLY need to write
down someday), random topic of the day, what someone would do with
a hill of beans, what would a squirrel look like with a welding
mask and torch, and other important (read: random) things like that
On a typical Friday night I am
Watching a movie with the kids (and/or on the computer) or in the
workshop - lately it has mostly been the workshop but wanting to
spend more time outside, having fun with the kids, or hanging out
with friends.
Now in Spanish
Viendo una película con los niños (y / o en el computador) o en el
taller - que últimamente ha sido principalmente el taller, pero que
desean pasar más tiempo fuera, divirtiéndose con los niños, o salir
con amigos.
Atípico - conducción de un evento de SCA
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Does seem kind of odd to admit to something really private on a
public website. Perhaps I will get back to this later....
You should message me if
If you are looking for friends and I sound at all
interesting.
Or if a rabid squirrel is forcing you to.
