Which do you own more of?
  • Books.
  • Movies.
  • Music.
  • Games.
I'm honestly not sure if it's books or music. I have so much of each that it's difficult to even guess accurately. I'll go with books because they take up a lot more space.

Presenting, live in concert

Looking over my musical preferences, I realize that in the month of October, I saw 4 of the bands/artists I bothered to list as favorites, none of whom I'd ever seen live before. I had to travel to Vancouver, and then to Seattle two weeks later to accomplish this, but what a *fantastic* month.

I could have done 5 concerts if I hadn't been too sick one night to drag myself out. Damned recycled office air.

Would you date someone you weren't crazy...?

Would you date someone you weren't crazy about if they took you on cool dates?
  • Yes
  • No

I wouldn't mislead them regarding my interest, so in the spirit of the question I will answer "No." That doesn't mean I'd rule out friendship, if I otherwise liked the individual but there was no romantic chemistry happening. Sounds like somebody cool to hang out with.

What's cooler?

What's cooler?
  • Clothes that are too tight
  • Clothes that are too loose

Call me crazy, but I actually prefer clothes that fit properly.

Stuff I ponder more than is reasonable

So, when I mentioned the movie Babette's Feast in my profile, I got to thinking about one thing that always bugged me about the film. It's really a nitpick, but I would have cross-cast the pairs of actresses playing the two sisters. By that, I mean I would have had the opposite actresses play them in the young and old incarnations. 1/B and 2/A instead of 1/A and 2/B, you see?. To my mind, it would have more accurately reflected how each woman would have appeared as she aged (wtf bone structure?), without affecting the performances. And that gets me wondering if there was a conscious choice involved in *not* matching the actresses more realisticially, to throw the audience off-balance and keep it on the surreal side. I never know if I'm picking up on something I was *meant* to notice or not.

I go chasing after thoughts like this a lot. Like when I had to watch L'Avventura for a film studies class (hated it, sorry if you think it's the best movie EVAR), and couldn't get past the idea that the boyfriend character had murdered his missing girlfriend that he and the best friend lost interest in finding once they got more interested in jumping each others bones. Well it seemed obvious *to me,* anyway.

Or like when I read Philip Roth's The Human Stain and the narrator appears to completely overlook the incredibly likely possibility that the deaths of the central characters are the result of a suicide pact, that Faunia's ex is a stalker and a creep, but *not* a murderer. I can't tell if this sense of the book is crucial to a full understanding of it or means I missed the point.

Likewise, I was terribly ambiguous about The Emperor's Children by Claire Messud. It was supposed to be one of the best novels of 2006, and I'll say it was really well-written, but the characters were incredibly self-centered. Not so much so that they didn't have their good (or at least charming) points, but they certainly seemed uniformly blind to the needs and feelings of others. I believe Messud was trying to make a point about isolation and society, but is everyone really that selfish, that poor a judge of character, that inept at communicating? I find it easier to take something of value away from reading a book when I actually give a damn about the characters, and these ones knew so little about their supposed loved ones, I didn't really want to get to know them either. Author's intent or not? I just can't tell.

Compared to what might be average for their gender and sexual orientation, do you prefer a partner to be more masculine or more feminine?

When it comes to serious relationships, some...?

When it comes to serious relationships, some people believe in the sentiment, "What's mine is yours and what's yours is mine?" What do you think?
  • What's theirs is theirs and what's mine is mine.
  • What's theirs is mine and what's mine is theirs.
  • What's theirs is mine and what's mine is mine.
  • What's theirs is theirs and what's mine is theirs.

Well... I believe in sharing and not being a flipping hypocrite about it, but I also believe in the sanctity of privacy and trust. I want to be able to choose two answers, dammit!

Which of these is wrong?

Which of these is wrong?
  • The cat's out of the bag.
  • The cat's feet are out of the bag.
  • All the cat's are out of the bag.
  • None of them! They're all correct!

I wonder if Stephen Notley knows his comic inspired a question on an internet dating site.
