"May I speak to the owner?"
"No, we don't have an owner."
"I... don't understand. How does that work?"
I'm also the IT guy there, managing upgrades and fixing computer and network problems (which I also somehow end up doing for family, co-workers, families of co-workers and pretty much anyone else connected within six degrees of separation.)
I was raised and spent most of my life in South Atlanta. A small part of my life was spent living in North Georgia when I was younger, but I was a bit of a bad boy and ended up moving back. (I’m not as much of a bad boy anymore, but still very mischievous sometimes; gotta have fun!) I still have a lot of family there and visiting is a great break from the hustle of the city sometimes.
I like to get out of the house as much as possible on weekends or whenever the opportunity arises. Sometimes it’s a guys' night out to shoot some pool at a local club. At other times, it’s a day with family or friends to Six Flags, Fun Bowl, or anything else that catches my attention at the moment. There’s not always a plan and sometimes plans change midstream. Recently, my cousin and I went on a scenic drive through the North Georgia Mountains. Along the way, we talked to a couple of women visiting a peanut stand who told us about a place where we would see some deer and likely some bears. Off we went for photos of wild bear! Unfortunately, we only saw one small deer and ended up getting lost. Ending up almost in North Carolina, we realized we weren’t far from Cherokee, so we quickly changed plans and headed for the casino. That was my first time in a casino. I found out you can sit there pushing that little button on the slot machines for quite a while for only $20!
I suppose that being spontaneous can sometimes be a detriment. (Yeah, I know I’m not supposed to write negative things in my profile, but hey...I'm being HONEST!) If I had a choice between sitting at home saving my money and taking off for the beach... "Honey, where's my sunglasses?"
Don’t get me wrong; I’m not always on the go. Frequently, I can be quite lazy. I often cruise down the block to the Barnes & Noble /Starbucks to just sit while reading and sipping a non-fat raspberry mocha. And of course, I enjoy spending plenty of time mellowing out at home with a movie, favorite TV show or a good book.
When at home, I love to cook (no, not frozen diners nor boxed meals). It’s extremely relaxing and allows me to exercise my creative side. Most times, it’s something relatively simple like a pesto pasta or rosemary rice & broccoli, but sometimes I like to get a little more "fancy" when I’m cooking for someone else, mostly because it freaks people out when you're tossing food in the air or flambeing a sauce. ("Put that fire extinguisher down!")
I enjoy photography a lot whether outdoor nature scenes, candid portraits or studio-like portraits. I’ve invested quite a bit in my Nikon SLR with a couple of flash units and some studio lights and equipment. In the near future, I’d love to take some classes and maybe someday open up my own studio, taking personal and family portraits. I've recently taken trips to Charleston and Savannah to explore and photograph some of the Country's most beautiful historic cities. Now I'm trying to figure out where to explore next. Any suggestions?
Okay, that’s too much already. At least that’s all you're gonna get for now. If you wanna know more, you’re gonna have to send me a message. ;)
