My self-summary
I'm a passionate but understanding person, meaning I enjoy working passionately for the things I care about but I still try to meet life at life's terms as much as I can. I enjoy everything outdoors (biking, hiking, kayaking, gardening, etc) I started a 3 acre community garden last spring, which led me to a job creating community gardens around the city. Its been an amazing experience. I enjoy the communities that are created around gardening.

I moved to DC from a small NC mountain town called Asheville. I do miss living in the mountains. There's something amazing about seeing the constant beauty of mountains anytime I need reminded how beautiful life is. But the thing I love most about DC is that reminder may be harder to see here, but when you do it tends to be more genuine. There's a lot of beautiful things happening in this city.
What I’m doing with my life
I came up to DC for grad school but got sidetracked by some amazing nonprofit jobs. I really enjoy all the green projects and urban ag happening in DC. There's more opportunities and amazing partners for these projects in DC than any other place I've seen. Its an exciting time to be in here.
I’m really good at
Finding the good in life, even when its difficult.
The first things people usually notice about me
My smile. I like to smile a lot.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love storytelling. Long car drives and NPR podcasts (radiolab, This American life, etc) are probably my favorite combination. DCspeakeasy story telling nights are pretty amazing too. I'd like to take their bootcamp storytelling class someday.

Books: anything written by Johnathan Safran Foer, palahniuk, vonnigut, Kingsolver, Howard Zinn

Music: I believe its important to have the right song for the moment. You have to have a versatile soundtrack for life. The right song can make the difference between a shitty day and a beautiful struggle.

A friend just introduced me to how to download youtube songs. I've been pretty obsessed lately with all the awesome live music on youtube.

I love New Orleans brass funk and jazz, indie, soulful bluegrass or really great singer songwriters. ie. Ben Sollee, Blind Pilot, Rising Appalachia, Trample by Turtles, and Rebirth Brass Band.

I also need good spoken word in life like Andrea Gibson. Good spoken word is probably the closet thing I have to a religion.

Food: One of my favorite things about DC is all the amazing food. I haven't found a restaurant I haven't liked but I have a special place in my heart for DC Ethiopian.

Places: I love night walks/bike rides on the mall. The FDR monument at night is so beautiful. I'm a big fan of the Malcolm X park drumcircle. Can't beat sipping on some wine with good friends and maybe a hammock and a crossword on a beautiful day at the drumcircle. I like the smaller music venues in DC like the Red Palace, IOTA, blackcat, etc.
The six things I could never do without
awesome longjohns would be somewhere on the list
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Keeping rats from compost. New music. Ways to get out of the city.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Sometimes when I'm cooking, I pretend I'm hosting a cooking tv show and narrate what I'm doing to the audience.

I'm looking for someone who appreciates and creates the beautiful little things in life. Someone who never passes up an opportunity to buy a street sense. Someone who finds the value in helping others (humans and/or animals). Someone who chooses not to be rude to a waiter/waitress even if that waiter/waitress sucks. Someone who enjoys digging in the dirt and growing things, and doesn't necessarily need to go home to change for a beer afterwards. Someone who understands the importance of paying attention to what goes on in the world, good or bad. Someone who would rather play a sport outside than spend a beautiful day inside watching other people play sports on a tv.
