I am bitey, mercurial, and a red panda.

My Self-Summary

Not a woman to mince words.
People, yes, but not words.

I am a rather eclectic person, but most of my interests are in some way or another geeky. I belong to the SCA, a group for medieval recreation. With them, I practice and compete at rapier fencing. I also play tabletop roleplaying games, most notably D&D, and I LARP. I play string bass when I have the time, which isn't too much lately, unfortunately.

I am not currently looking for anyone else to date. My social calendar is waaaaaaay full. Sorry.

Rationality is my religion. I can be infuriatingly pragmatic at times.

I'm an intellectual, but I loathe intellectual snobbery.

"Very serious" about atheism means I'm not going to change my mind anytime soon, not that I try to convert people. Though I may laugh at you if you believe silly things (though I'm usually nice enough to do it behind your back rather than to your face). I'd like to have more spirituality in my life, but I haven't found anything that works for me yet. I admire people who are able to incorporate spirituality into their lives without it interfering with their ability to act rationally and sensibly. Personal belief systems are *neat*.

Myers-Briggs: ISTJ, though the S morphs into an N on occasion.

What I’m doing with my life

Staffing/writing plot for Endgame, a postapocalyptic boffer LARP in New Hampshire. It's the first time I've helped run such a game and I'm having a blast. www.endgamelarp.com

I'm ludicrously busy. I'd love to get to know new people but it's really not happening these days. Great sadness.

I’m really good at

Hand shots. Spelling/grammar/proofreading. Will saves. Dissociation. Rationality and pragmatism.

The first things people usually notice about me

My height, probably. People don't tell me these things.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

a) I don't have a favorite book. I read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy, but I've recently gotten more interested in popular science, psychology/sociology, and political nonfiction. I also like computer programming books, not because I read them, but because that's how I make a living. Favorite authors in recent memory include Tolkien, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, D.N. Adams, Caroline Knapp, George R.R. Martin, Neal Stephenson, Stephen Brust. I recently read Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell and enjoyed it immensely. I've also been reading some postapocalyptic stuff for LARP source material -- Lucifer's Hammer, Damnation Alley, I am Legend being good recent ones.

b) I don't pay enough attention to have many favorite movies. I enjoyed the LOTR trilogy quite a bit. Ones I've enjoyed recently include Brazil, The Piano, The Royal Tenenbaums, Bladerunner, As Good as it Gets, The Blues Brothers, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Incredibles, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Last Unicorn, Zoolander, Orlando, Anchorman, and many more but I'm tired of doing the HTML tags.

c) I'm most fond of Celtic, classical, and folk. Random samples from my collection include Einstein's Little Homunculus, Erin McKeown, Phish, Paul Simon, Gaelic Storm, James Taylor, Ella Fitzgerald, Tori Amos, Yes, Ani Difranco, Save Ferris, and the Amadeus soundtrack. I like music that is musical; rap and punk-type stuff don't do it for me.

d) Depends on what I'm craving at the time. It's hard to beat good Thai, though. Indian, Japanese, and Korean all induce various stages of bliss, with salmon sashimi being the happiest of all. I'm not so much for the fatty fried stuff. American is boring but I'll eat it.

The six things I could never do without

Escapism, human contact, isolation, intellectual discourse, my stuffed penguin, and my grovelhog.

If I could have a seventh, it would be physical activity/exercise. I'm not a health nut or anything, but if I go more than a day without some sort of exercise I start to feel rather antsy. Combat-simulating sports (fencing, boffer) are my favorite form of exercise.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The minutia of daily life, sadly enough. How on Earth I'm going to fit everything into my day that I'd like, and still get enough sleep.

Human interaction, social awkwardness, my regrets and triumphs therein.

Language. How to say exactly what I mean.

What the inside of my own head looks like.

 The people I love.

On a typical Friday night I am

Doing something social with friends, embarking on a weekend LARP, exercising, playing with the cats, getting ready for an SCA event, or conducting a culinary experiment in my kitchen.

Aw, who am I kidding? Lately it's all about Rock Band.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I derive perhaps unhealthy enjoyment from cracking other people's toes.

You should message me if

You think you know me or someone like me.

If you have anything useful or interesting to say. All geeky topics are fair game, though what really gets me talking is gaming -- live and tabletop -- and the SCA.

If you want me to teach you how to fence or learn more about historical fencing in the SCA.

You want to know more about Endgame (www.endgamelarp.com), a postapocalyptic boffer LARP I help run.
