I am creative, empathic, and independent.
My Self-Summary
I am a creative type looking for a kind man who's giving and
resourceful. I have a Deep-South background/ affinity, as well as
much broader experience and interests (international, academic,
musical). I am old-school but also very independent strong lady. A
refreshing & versatile mix. I've been learning a lot about
myself & relationships, & am eager to find a
practice-partner who's equally tenacious. Other things about me:
smart, deeply generous, weirdly intuitive, a unique sort-- so I've
been told. And people like my outfits.
What I’m doing with my life
making new outfits, writing a novel, improving my home, taking
better care of myself, learning what makes me happy, expanding (not
physically). Now that the weather's better, bicycling bicycling.
Not the racing-stripes kind but the cruiser kind, up and down
around town, practical-like. I like when I can get by without using
my car. Lately I'm doing a lot promoting my band; we recently got a
new injection of energy that has reinvigorated me creatively. watch
out, world.
I’m really good at
outfits [please continue reading, for elaboration on the
outfit-tip, lest you get the wrong impression.], playing violin,
writing, Argentine tango, budgeting, networking, making friends,
working on relationships, honesty and directness, being
constructive. I have done a good job of eliminating a lot of drama
from my life over the years.
The first things people usually notice about me
are that I'm energetic, excitable, engaging, kind. I talk with my
hands a lot. I have an outfit.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
When I take time away from choosing and making new outfits, here
are some things I like . . .
Books: "Cruddy," by Lynda Barry; anything by Alice Munro;
"Everything That Rises Must Converge," by Flannery O'Connor.
Music: most telling would be that my favorite 2 radio stations
these days are KNCT Easy Listening, & KAZI R&B. these likes
are only barely ironic. My new fixation is Karl Blau, who plays out
of tune & oddly arranged, both in fetching ways. Otherwise, a
huge range of rock (from Black Sabbath to Journey to the Clash to
Regina Spektor), pop (Prince, Lily Allen), jazz (Charles Mingus,
Tin Hat Trio), rap/hiphop (Outkast, M.I.A.), international &
Latin stuff (tango, fado, Balkan), country (George Jones, Roy
Acuff, Johnny Cash), and.... assorted old-people music (Marlene
Dietrich, bigband, many 70s flavors). Occasionally classical music.
NOT much of the 80s.
TV: "Flight of the Conchords" makes me laugh till I pee a little.
Lately, "The Wire" has been seriously like crack to me.
Food: healthy things but also occasionally greasy things. I do on
occasion like a fancy meal with really great wine, i.e. some
decadence. Meat. I eat meat, however rarely cook it at home.
The six things I could never do without
chocolate, music, reading, hiking & camping, family, swimming;
or better yet, thinking about what outfit I'll wear when I go
swimming.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
what I want, ways I'm changing, what's next. People I know, or
songs. Stories. New outfits.
On a typical Friday night I am
having dinner w/ some pals or seeing music or sitting on my ass
watching a movie; more likely, trying on outfits.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
1. I don't actually spend a lot of time on outfits.
2. One of those descriptor-symbols below hurts my feelings, because
it implies I'm a prude. I'm actually a very passionate person, just
have learned not to place those impulses at the forefront. Haven't
figured out how to eliminate that pesky descriptor, though.
You should message me if
you're a grown-up, curious in the world, motivated, communicative.
nice.
