My self-summary
Creative people are sexy. Women who know words I don't, who speak languages I can't, and who can think faster than I can always get my attention.

I'm looking for someone to hang out with over margaritas, coffee, or beer, maybe catch a few movies, and see what happens.

I'm very playful, both verbally and with geeky board games. And with guitars, too, for that matter. I used to teach preschool part-time, and I'm darn good at it.

I can get passionate about any number of things, movies probably chief among them. Politics are also high on the list, as are writing, kids, Halloween costumes, History, Shakespeare, and all sorts of pointless trivia.

I am smart, funny, and creative
What I’m doing with my life
I work for the state, not precisely what I want to be doing, but it's important work, helping people who need helping. I've applied for a job doing something that I'd really, really like to be doing, but I won't hear back any time soon.

My main hobby is screenwriting, and I'm actually good enough at it to be a judge for a major competition. I also write erotica, and have had the chance to read it in public several times now, including at Bedpost Confessions. I've been known to teach writing, and I really miss it.

Ideally, I'd probably be writing full time, but I could also be exquisitely happy if I had a job that not only made the world a better place (which my current job does), but also challenged me to the limits of my abilities (which my current job does not).

I try to spend as much time as possible in movie theaters, but it's never enough. Netflix helps a lot, though.
I’m really good at
Being funny, being smart, being honest. I'm a good friend, I make good pesto, and I love to laugh out loud. I can do things like tile a bathroom floor, I can read Poststructuralist social theory without getting a brain hemorrhage, and I can turn a 3-1 double play if the pitcher remembers to cover first base. I write good erotica, and am working on writing a great screenplay. I am awesome with 3 to 6 year-olds. Seriously. Parents think I'm God's gift to preschool. I love the kids, but it's just not where my passion lies.

I'm also extremely ethical. Someone recently made me realize that I treat ethics the way a lot of spiritual people treat their spirituality. It's my guide, and I follow it even if it's inconvenient or frustrating. And I fall short a lot, but probably no more than the average religious person.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably my voice--I can't count the number of times I've been told I should be in radio.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I read a lot of sci-fi in high school, and got turned on to Cyberpunk by Timothy Leary in college (no kidding. He told us all to run out and buy 'Neuromancer.' I did.) Then I went to grad school and read tons and tons of great stuff. Then I had kids and reading time became the stuff of legend. I enjoy combining reading and movies by reading screenplays.

I like music with some kind of edge: old-time gospel, hard rock, blues, even some metal, but I also like classical (anything Bach) and lotsa jazz. Cole Porter is brilliant, show tunes are for singing (loudly).

I love Movies. More important than anything else is a good script: smart dialogue, characters I care about, a good, tight story. I have nothing against action films (ask me about my dissertation. Go on--I dare you), but OMFG, most of them feel like they could have been written by a seventh-grader.

Some of my favorites include Juno, Run Lola Run, My Neighbor Totoro, 10 Things I Hate About You, Mean Girls, Annie Hall, Full Metal Jacket, The Hurt Locker, Long Kiss Goodnight, Monster House, The Graduate, The Aristocrats ("crats," not "cats"), Miracle on 34th Street, Fargo, Blood Simple, Little Miss Sunshine, Legally Blonde, Duck Soup, Winter's Bone, and Young Frankenstein. And Brazil.

Movies
Intelligent Conversation
Family and Friends
a Guitar

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Politics (I used to have a snarky, obscenity-strewn political/feminist blog that I dearly loved and which will catch up with me one day when I'm trying to look respectable), my kids, movies, and teaching.
On a typical Friday night I am
Ideally, drinking margaritas or coffee with someone smart and funny, maybe going to a movie.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm still trying to work up the courage to be as kinky as I think I actually am. I sublimate it by writing kinky erotica.

...if you're looking for an honest, mature person with whom to watch movies, drink margaritas (moderately) or coffee (excessively), have sparkling conversation, goof around, have fun, and maybe develop a friendship which could develop into something more.
